Happy Birthday, Robert. Have many more. Peggy P
Gang, Join me in wishing a very Happy Birthday to Robert Wayne (Barrentine) Palmertree. Lynn, please tell Robert he's being thought about from cousins he doesn't know he knows - :-) Ken
Lynn,, Thanks for catching that. I guess I knew what I meant, but didn't quite say it right, huh? Ha. Ken -----Original Message----- I just noticed you said that donny was my robert's half-brother. Donny's father (robert, by dell's 2nd wife) is about 50 and Robert Wayne (dell's son by his first wife, Fay) is 56, or will be this saturday. lynn

Peggy. If Toad doesn't know I'll bet Peggy just might. I think they got all of Pattie's info on their family and everyone elses. She had a lot of it backed up on disc if I remember right. Toad and Peggy do have a computer and if I run across the e mail I will try to get it from them. Patsy Look at the names in this note starting with P's Peggy P. Peggy D., Pattie M. and Patsy. Most of us higginbothams (or as some people spell it Higginbottom) are from the Delta and around Vardaman, I think. I have the Higginbotham book and in it is a Mae Ethel Higginbotham, born in Montgomery Cty in 1910. She grew up near Winona where she married Edd Donohoo, September 26, 1926. They had eleven children. She is kin to me as we both originated from Moses Higginbotham. She was a cousin of my grandfather who was born in 1898. My father was James Durwood Higginbotham, born in 1922 in Tallahatchie County. He grew up in Clarksdale. He married my mom Virginia Burns and I was born in Clarksdale in 1946. After reading your notes regarding this, I did a quick search online and found a little more about this hairstyle. Thought you might like to see some photos in case you haven't quite got it in your head what this style looks like. Ken Victory Rolls (Side Reverse-Rolls) Possibly one of the most recognizable looks of the 1940's, and one of the most flattering looks, top reverse rolls are swept up away from the face, rolled and pinned toward the top of the head. In the late 1940's, the victory roll hairstyle was wildly popular. This term was actually used for a fighter plane maneuver, but women adopted it for a fashion statement that celebrated the victory after WWII. Note that the hair is swept upward and slightly forward, this is typical of the 1940's. Also, ladies, remember not to let your rolls appear hollow-- ever! Being able to see through the back of the roll is a 1940's no-no, and makes your hair look thin and poorly finished. Afterall, the goal of such a hairstyle is to make it look like you have so much lovely, flowing, curly hair that you don't know what to do with it! Ken, I think they are the big long rolls of hair down both sides of the head,I didn't know they called them Victory Rolls. They used "hair rats" that the hair was rolled around to keep the rolls nice and round. I think Mom had some of those, but I didn't know they called that style Victory Rolls. I remember there were lots of paperdolls with hairdos like that when I was little and on the dance shows now they style their hair that way for the jitterbug and swing dances. They were a WWII hairstyle popular in the late 1940's and early 1950's. Nova, my mother had one of those "rats" and I suffered many hours of having hair brushed, pinned and curled over one of those things. Then of course you had to keep checking to be sure that the "rat" didn't show through your hair. I was so glad when long, straight hair became the style! http://www.beauty-and-the-bath.com/vintage-style-victory-rolls.html http://www.hairthursday.com/stuff/hair-today-victory-rolls.htm Jeannine
Has anyone here ever heard of a woman's hairdo (must be 40s or 50s) called "victory rolls"? I saw it in an advertisement on Ancestry.com for their U.S. Yearbook Collection. The ad said: "See whether Grandma sported a bob, a bouffant, or victory rolls in our newly doubled U.S. Yearbook Collection." I have never heard the term "victory rolls" and wondered what is was. Is it anything like the girls of the 50s and 60s using orange juice cans for rollers???????????????? Thanks. Ken
Janet, come on over to Miss. & have Thanksgiving with this set of P'tree's on Thanksgiving. I know we will have more food than you can shake a stick at. Just hope it isn't raining or cold (below 20 deg). Tried to talk Donnie into coming since they are all kin by way of the Green's. Some could tell some stories about the Green's. Peggy P
OK Peggy, which one is that since we now have two Donnys/Donnies on here. And we're both kin to Greens. I wish I could be home for the holidays. Just have to wait til May as usual though.
