    3. Jeannine, I am very interested. I cannot find my files right now and will be away for 5-6 days. My husband is having surgery.  I would definitely be interested in knowing what you have.  Will be in touch with you when we get back home. joan ________________________________ From: Jeannine K Smith <jks1@ra.msstate.edu> To: palmertree@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, December 1, 2008 8:38:29 PM Subject: Re: [PTREE] Grice at Old Memphis Cemetery If I remember correctly these at Old Memphis were from North Carolina. 1. [PTREE] Family Name
    2. Jeannine K Smith
    3. Here's one Ken - not exactly the same type that you've been sending out - but I've had this taped inside my working notebook for over 30 years! Family Name You got it from your father, It was all he had to give. So it's yours to use and cherish, For as long as you may live. If you lose the watch he gave you, It can always be replaced. But a black mark on your name, son, Can never be erased. It was clean the day you took it, And a worthy name to bear. When he got it from his father, There was no dishonor there. So make sure you guard it wisely, After all is said and done. You'll be glad the name was spotless, When you give it to your son. Unknown

    1. [PTREE] Dear Ancestor
    2. Ken Jackson
    3. Dear Ancestor Your tombstone stands among the rest; neglected and alone. The name and date are chiseled out on polished, marbled stone. It reaches out to all who care; it is too late to mourn. You did not know that I exist; you died and I was born. Yet each of us are cells of you in flesh, in blood, in bone. Our blood contracts and beats a pulse entirely not our own. Dear Ancestor, the place you filled one hundred years ago, Spreads out among the ones you left who would have loved you so. I wonder as you lived and loved, I wonder if you knew That someday I would find this spot, and come to visit you.

    1. [PTREE] Your Ancestors
    2. Ken Jackson
    3. Your Ancestors If you could see your ancestors all standing in a row, Would you be proud of them? Or don't you really know? Strange discoveries are often made, in climbing the family tree. Sometimes one is found in line who shocks the progeny. If you could see your ancestors all standing in a row, Perhaps there might be one or two you wouldn't care to know. Now turn the question right about and take another view. When you shall meet your ancestors will they be proud of you?

    1. [PTREE] To Whom It May Concern!
    2. Ken Jackson
    3. To Whom It May Concern! I went searching for an ancestor, I cannot find him still. He moved around from place to place, and didn't leave a will. He married where a courthouse burned, he mended all his fences. He avoided any man who came to take the U.S. Census. He always kept his luggage packed, this man who had no fame. And every 20 years or so, this rascal changed his name. His parents came from Europe, they should be on some list. Of Passengers to the USA, but somehow they got missed. And no one else in this world is searching for this man. So I'm playing "Gene-Solitaire" to find him if I can. I'm told he's buried in a plot, with tombstone he was blessed. But the weather took the engraving, and vandals took the rest. He died before the county clerks decided to keep records. NO family Bible has emerged, in spite of all my efforts. To top it off, this ancestor of mine who's caused me so many groans. Just to give me one more pain, betrothed a girl named Jones.

    1. [PTREE] Genealogist's Psalm
    2. Ken Jackson
    3. Genealogist's Psalm Genealogy is my pastime, I shall not stray. It maketh me to lie down and examine half-buried tombstones. It leadeth me into still courthouses. It restoreth my ancestral knowledge. It leadeth me in paths of census records, ship's passenger list for my surname's sake. Yea, though I walk through the shadows of research libraries, and microfilm readers, I shall fear no discouragement. For a strong urge is within me; the curiosity and motivation they comforteth me. It demandeth preparation of storage space for the acquisition of countless documents. It annointeth my head with burning midnight oil; my family group sheets runneth over. Surely birth, marriage, and death dates shall follow me all the days of my life; And I shall dwell in the house of a family-history seeker forever.

    3. The Family Tree They think that I should cook and clean and be a model wife. I tell them it's more interesting to study Grandpa's life. They simply do not understand why I hate to go to bed... I'd rather do two hundred years of research work instead. Why waste the time we have on earth just snoring and asleep? When we can learn of ancestors that sailed upon the deep? We have Priests, Rabbis, lawmen, soldiers, more than just a few. And yes, there's many scoundrels, and a bootlegger or two. How can a person find this life an awful drudge or bore? When we can live the lives of all those folks who came before? A hundred years from now, of course, no one will ever know Whether I did laundry, but they'll see our Tree and glow.... 'Cause their dear old granny left for them, for all posterity, not clean hankies and the like, but a finished family tree. My home may be untidy, 'cause I've better things to do... I'm checking all the records to provide us with a clue. Old Great granny's pulling roots and branches out with glee, Her clothes ain't hanging out to dry, she's hung up on the Tree.

    3. Peggy, Thanks for letting us know about Roy's passing and tentative arrangements. Probably will have to wait until next week's papers to find an obituary. I remember meeting Roy at the Ed Palmertree family reunion in about 1987. I think you must remember that one, too. We had a good ole time, didn't we? I have some photos I took at that one, and boy do we look like teenagers there! Ha. Mama sure enjoyed meeting all her previously unknown cousins. She struck up a conversation with Roy then, and they talked and talked and talked. No telling what kind of tales she heard from him... Thanks again! 3. Don, yes Gail(youngest)lives in Vaiden and is married to Dewayne Carpenter. Polly, the older, is married to Leland Overstreet. Only 2 children. Joy Grice and Herbert were bro & Sister. She lives here in Winona. We all seem to lose touch. No sons.) drove an older pickup to school.  I know I was just in early grade school and she was already driving, so she might be close to 10 years older and I'm 58 now.  I remember going to the country place around '61 with Cliff and fished in a pond somewhere back behind the house. You mentioned Joy Grice.  Is that Uncle Victor's daughter?  The only cousin I really knew in that family was Herbert.  He came to our Grice cousin reunion at Poplar Creek in 2004 just before he died. I hope everybody had a nice day yesterday. I did.  Didn't get too stressed out cooking and the turkey turned out pretty close to perfect! 2. Don Grice
    3. Joan, You mentioned Gail and Polly. Are they Uncle Cliff's daughters? I remember one of his daughters (didn't they have just 2 daughters? I knew all daddy's brothers & sisters and had met Homer & Virgil, I know. Know most of the cousins but everybody has scattered.I keep in touch with Tempy and Gail. I have been trying to find out more about John Robert Sr. Talked to Joy Grice and she got me copies of the info from her families Bible. Polly & Leland come nearly every year and stay a month out at Uncle Cliff's place. We had some good times at those reunions. When we get over our dr going and surgery, I hope to get back to the Archives in Jksn. joan ________________________________ From: Don Grice <donald_grice@comcast.net> To: palmertree@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, November 26, 2008 10:02:30 PM Subject: Re: [PTREE] Grice families French Camp Wow! It took this one a while to pop up. About 36 hours since I sent it. Must be the "holiday" traffic???
