Donnie, I don't have any dates on the photo. My Great-Grandmother is Mary Lee Evans (in the photo). She married David McClellan (also in the photo) in January of 1899. My grandmother, their daughter, thought this picture had been taken prior to their marriage so that would make the date 1898 or earlier. Thanks Jeannine and Ken. I see a Mattie Rogers listed here. That's my grandmother, Martha Rogers Green's nickname. I'm trying to figure out if that might be her. Does anybody have dates for this picture? She was born either 1899 or 1900. Gang, This is O.D.'s great nephew. Ken --------------------------- The Star-Herald Kosciusko, MS December 3, 2008 Ellis-McElroy vows planned in December Miss Brittany Michelle Ellis and Christopher Marc McElroy will exchange marriage vows on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church in the Friendship Community. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Close friends and family are invited to attend. The bride-elect is the daughter of James and Lesa Ellis of Sallis. She is the granddaughter of Nell and Eugene Barfield of Kosciusko, the late Samuel Bernard Burns also of Kosciusko, Myrtie Sue Ellis and the late Quit Ellis of Durant. Miss Ellis graduated from Mid-Mississippi Home Educators and Holmes Community College. The prospective bridegroom is the son of Mark and Rhonda McElroy of Friendship Community. He graduated from Ethel High School and is attending Holmes Community College. He is self-employed as a taxidermist at McElroy's Taxidermy. The couple will reside in Friendship Community.
O.D., I didn't realize some of the relationships you provided here. I like your theory about this, too. Makes sense to me, but I guess we'll never know for certain until that one piece of undisputable evidence surfaces, huh? Thanks for your input. John is Francines great grandfather and John's family not only lived in the Poplar Spring's area but Francine's grand father William Thomas was married to Rebecca Oliver, a sister to Sarah Oliver, the mother of Tobitha. To me it seems more than likely that Adelbert was in this area about April 1893 when Tobitha became pregnant. But as Adelbert died 12 June1893 that could be the reason he never returned for Tobitha... Delbert was born 1 January 1894... Adelbert may have never known that Tobitha was going to have a son for them and that she would drop the "A" from his name and call him Delbert. The story that I heard was that he left her at a train station and told her that he would return for her??? And again Lynn, thank's for this idea that I would think is a fact... O.D.

Lynn, I remember you bringing that up when we were discussing candidates a few weeks ago. I meant to tell you then that it was a good theory. Then again, maybe the Adelbert got the "A" left off with our wonderful southern speak? It seems plausible to me, but unless we can find some sort of real proof, it will just be a good guess. Frankly, I Feel like U. Adelbert Barrentine just might be the father of Delbert. I thought perhaps, since O.D. married into the Barrentine line that he might have a little more insight into that family history than we others do. Does Eva Nell know anything about Marion's death? PP
Thanks, O.D. You sure been hiding here lately. Do you have any ideas or theories of who the Barrentine could have been that fathered Delbert Palmertree? As close as that community was back then, I'm really surprised that none of the last 2 generations talked about it or told the story. However, that might have been not talked about then? How is Francine doing? Tell her hello for us. Ken -----Original Message----- Better late than "Never"???
