Gang, Join me in wishing happy birthday to Francine Barrentine McElroy, wife of our own O.D. McElroy. O.D., please give our sincerest wishes to Francine on her special day. We are thinking of both of you today! Ken and Gang
Gang, I have been trying to compose Happy Birthday messages in advance so I won't forget to send them on the right date. I have the message delayed until that certain date, and then the message is automatically released. Well, only problem with that is the computer has to be ON and connected to the Internet. I was away all weekend for the holiday, and since Peggy's birthday was Saturday, it didn't get sent on time. So when I got back yesterday and turned on the computer, the message was automatically sent. Sorry for missing your birthday again, Peggy, but I was going to be so smart and not miss any more list birthdays. Seems I goofed on that one. So, another belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Ken

Gang, Re-posting some family info for our new cousin, Sean Rotkiske, great-great grandson of Thomas Newton Palmertree and Roxie Ann Gibson Palmertree. Ken The Panolian January 1, 1886 Batesville, Mississippi Dead - T. N. Palmertree, who resided in the Eastern part of the county, and who was shot at Taylor's Depot Christmas day, died of the wound and was buried last Sunday. He was shot by a man named Williams. Family Stories: According to notes from Kenneth Gwen Palmertree, great-grandson of Thomas Newton Palmertree: "as my father, Lonnie Virgil Palmertree, related it to me, Thomas was not accidentally shot, he was robbed of cotton money." After Thomas Newton Palmertree died in 1885, Roxie Gibson Palmertree married Monroe McGehee, and they had one daughter, Lela A. McGehee, who married Henry Rosenstein about 1916.
Sean, Wow! What a treat to hear from you again and get some new family info for my file. I have been away for the holiday, and just now am able to read your message. Thank you so much for taking time to share a little family info with me. I certainly would welcome anything you feel like sharing, especially photos. I had not heard the story that Edna Downs had Native American ancestry, but that certainly is a possibility. Have you ever tried to locate her (of her parent(s) on the Dawes Indian Rolls? That is a list of those members of the Five Civilized Tribes who removed to Indian Territory (Oklahoma), including the 1900 Indian Territory Census. I have never heard of either of her parents, George W. Downs or Amanda P. Steen being of Native American heritage. But I haven’t done a complete study on those lines, either, so anything is possible. I will be looking forward to any other information you care to share with me, including photos. Your cousins on the Palmertree Mailing List would just love to view any new family photos you might share with us. Again, thank you for your reply, and do have a great Happy New Year in 2009!! Your cousin, Ken. Yes my mother is Linda Louise Palmertree Cummings. She was married to my father Edward Rotkiske (no middle name) from 1968 until 1975. I will have to lookup when she married David Cummings. She is the Daughter of Edna Matilda Kehs Palmertree and Clarence. Her brothers are (Jr.)Clarence Edward Palmertree, David Palmertree, Robert Palmertree, William Palmertree I have 2 other brothers Kevin Christpoher Rotkiske and Christopher Allen Rotkiske. I have all of my Palmertree data in Family Tree maker. I will run a report and email it to you. Birthdays, middle names, spouses, offspring etc. I have 1 single photograph of Emma Downs. Its of her and my Grandmother Edna from sometime in 1950. I believe it is in Arkansas. I will have to scan the picture in and email it to you for inclusion. I was told that Emma Downs was possibly Cherokee or some other tribe of Native American Indian. Do you know if this is accurate? The explaination of the cojoining of Palmer-tree as the origin of the family name is FASCINATING and explains so much. Very exciting indeed. Regards, Sean
