    3. Sept. 26, 1941 The Winona Times Winona, Ms. Mrs. Sarah Frances Bridges Mrs. Sarah Frances Bridges passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R.C. Barnhill, Starkville on Sept. 18, 1941, after an illness of 2 weeks. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, Sept. 19th. at 3:30 o'clock at the Poplar Springs church with the Rev. J.B. Flowers officiating. Interment following in the church cemetery with Oliver Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Bridges, who would have celebrated her 85th birthday Oct. 19th, was a native of Choctaw Co. She was a member of the Salem Methodist church. Surviving are 4 daughters, Mrs. R.C. Barnhill, Starkville, Mrs. R._.Rogers, Kilmichael, Mrs. J.B. Brown, Dublin, Mrs. Clarence Chesteen, Poplar Creek; & 4 sons, Sell B. Bridges, Winona, R.A. Bridges, Tupelo, Cleve Bridges Poplar Creek, & Ed Bridges of Starkville.

    3. Sept. 19, 1941 The Winona Times Winona, Ms. Calvin V. Bruce Last rites for Calvin v. "Bill" Bruce were held Sunday afternoon, Sept. 14th., at 4 o'clock at Milligan Springs Church with the Rev. J.M. Palmertree of Kilmichael officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Lee Funeral Home in charge of arrangement. Mr. Bruce, who was 28 years of age passed away at his home in Stewart, Miss., Saturday, Sept. 13th . Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nellie Jackson Bruce, 3 daughters, , Norma, Syble & Blanche; 6 sisters, Mrs. Owen Tyler, Jackson, Mrs. Mark smith, Pueblo, Co., Mrs. Ella Dean, Tomnolen, Mrs. Mollie Powers, Ruleville, & Mrs. Sallie Bramlette, Belzoni; & 3 brothers, John Bruce of Greenwood, Nason Bruce, & Ed Wheeler, both of Jackson.

    3. Aug. 22, 1941 The Winona Times Winona, Miss. C.E. Briscoe C.E. Briscoe, 62 years of age, passed away suddenly at his home in Kilmichael, Aug. 18th. 1941. He had been a resident of Kilmichael for 2 years, moving there from Indianola. He was farmer, a good citizen & a member of the Methodist Church. Funeral services were held Wed., Aug. 20th., at 4 o'clock at the Methodist Church, Kilmichael, with the Rev. Carl L. Oakes, assisted by the Rev. J.W. Eidson of the Baptist Church. Interment was in the Kilmichael cemetery with Lee Funeral Home in charge of arrangement. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary E. Briscoe, Kilmichael; 4 sisters,Mrs. Minnie Tillman & Mrs. R.E. Different of Braxton, Miss Inez Briscoe of Pueblo, Arizona, Mrs. Bessie Dickson, Jackson, & 3 brothers, J.F. Briscoe & Carlton Briscoe of Jackson & H.V. Briscoe of Indianola.

Austin Last rites for Luther Barksdale Austin, who passed away at the Winona Infirmary on July 1st, were held at Columbian Church Friday afternoon, July 2nd., at 3 o'clock with his pastor, the Rev. J.T. McAfferty assisted by the Rev. A.L. Davenport officiating. Interment was in Oakwood cemetery with Lee Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Active pallbearers were his 5 sons, Carl, Cade, Bowen, Wayne & Dell Austin & his son-in-law, Garland Lowry. Mr. Austin, who was 66 years of age was born in Carroll Co. He was the son of the late John H. & Temperance Rucker Austin, pioneer settlers of Carrol & Montgomery Counties. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Claudia Carter Austin; 3 daughters, Mrs. J.G. Hamer, Paris, Texas, Mrs. G.L. Lowry, Winona; Miss Bettie Leigh Austin, Memphis; 7 sons, Ward Austin, Winona, R.E. Austin, Jackson, Carl Austin, vaiden, 1st Sergeant Cade Austin, Camp McCoy, Wisconsin, 1st Lieut Bowen Austin, Brooklyn, N.Y., Private Wayne Austin, San Antonio, Texas, & Dell Austin, Oxford, Miss. Applewhite, Vaiden, Friday morning, Nov. 14th. at 10 o'clock with the Rev. A.L. Davenport, assisted by the Rev. McNutt & the Rev. J.H. Holder officiating. Interment followed in the Applewhite cemetery near Vaiden with Lee Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Pierce who was 75 years old passed away at a Jackson hospital on Nov. 13th. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Joe A. & Sarah Watson Applewhite, pioneer settlers of the Vaiden community, & the widow of the late S.J. Pierce. Survivors are 2 brothers, J.C. Applewhite of Winona & T.I Applewhite of Vaiden.

Mrs. Hambrick, who passed away at her residence on Route 2, Vaiden, was born in Montgomery Co. March 4, 1884. She was a member of the Pine Bluff Baptist Church.
