O.D., Glad to have helped. You keep me straightened out, too, you know. It would be interesting to find C.S.A. records for Rufus L. Bridges, for I'm sure he served and probably was killed in battle. His wife, Adeline Broomhall, had a brother, William H. Broomhall who was killed in the Battle of Franklin. They might have served in the same unit, and died there together? Franklin, TN is only about 30 miles from here. I could go there sometime and see what I can find out, if you'd like. ----------------------------------------------------------- Franklin: The Valley of Death According to Sam Watkins, 1st Tennessee Infantry: "(Franklin) is the blackest page in the history of the War of the Lost Cause. It was the bloodiest battle of modern times in any war. It was the finishing stroke to the Independence of the Southern Confederacy. I was there. I saw it." Called "The Gettysburg of the West," Franklin saw one of the few night battles in the Civil War. It was also one of the smallest battlefields of the war (only 2 miles long and 1 1/2 miles wide). The main battle began around 4:00 pm and wound down around 9:00 pm. When the battle was over, 2500 Federal troops lay dead, and 7000 Confederate troops. There is a Confederate Cemetery there where 1481 soldiers are laid to rest. ------------------------------------------------------ Ken
O.D., Thanks. I had Nell Hancock in my file, but somehow attached her as a spouse of William Franklin's father. Glad to make that correction! Now, who do you have that Nelwyn Lenora Palmertree as a child of? Right now she's just floating around in my database all by her lonesome................. Thanks. I meant to say that it appears that Rufus and Adaline went TO Yalobusha County from Choctaw County, instead of the other way around. Evidently Adaline returned to Choctaw County after the War and his death, perhaps? Maybe he ruffed someone up pretty bad and had to exit to county..... Ken

OD Wrote: haven't any proof of that at this time... Why did the family relocate from Yalobusha County in 1860 to Choctaw County after the war??? Interesting question OD, one I've been pondering with my Evans family. They were in GA in 1850, AL in 1860 and Calhoun County MS in 1870 (which is next door to Yalobusha) and in 1880 Montgomery County. In my research they are the only family that moved from a "northern" county to Poplar Creek. I wonder was there still free land available in Choctaw/Montgomery county? I know there was at least some as I have land Patents from the 1870's, 80's and even 90's. Or some other economic reason? Jeannine Jeannine Kirkpatrick Smith
Gang, I am finally out of the Deer hunting woods and am ready to do some serious genealogy research. First I plan on finding who the ancestors of R.L. Bridges. I have only found him in this 1860 census--- 1860 Census Yalobusha County, Mississippi. South East Beat. Post Office-Oakland. Page-164. 5 September 1860. As you can see he was born about 1834 in North Carolina and is living in Yalobusha Count with his wife and two son's. William is very will known to many of us with many of his relatives still living in this area. He and his wife are buried in Poplar Springs Cemetery. Although his brother R.C. [Rasselas Cicero] is not as well known, his family lived in the Chapel Hill area and are buried In the Bethsaida Cemetery. His son Estel had an old school bus that came by our house each Saturday and provided a ride into Kosciusko for any of us that could afford going into town. 1870 Census Choctaw, Mississippi. Now in 1870 and 1880 the brother's were still living with their mother with William being married with their 1st child... I think that their father must have been killed in the cival war but haven't any proof of that at this time... Why did the family relocate from Yalobusha County in 1860 to Choctaw County after the war??? HELP - HELP - HELP... O.D.
Thanks much Ken, I don't have a death date for lady Dupree either, just listed as one of his wives.. that old boy sure got around with the ladies.. Gang, I found this note in the March 2008 archives. After reading the obituary for Jean E. Palmertree, I realized that the name of the cemetery I found online is incorrect. I thought that was a really weird name for a cemetery! Ken ------------------------------------------------------- From: "Ken Jackson" <kjchowboy@bellsouth.net> Subject: [PTREE] Palmertree Burial Location Date: Wed, 19 Mar 2008 00:10:02 -0500 Gang, I just found this: William Franklin "Willie" Palmertree (husband of Ada Ferrell and Ethel Dupree; son of Will and Nan Lindsey Palmertree) Buried at Zcherishel Acres Cemetery Purvis, Lamar County, Mississippi ------------------------------------------------------- Correct name is Cherished Acres Cemetery.
Ed and all: Yes, this is another wife of William Franklin "Willie" Palmertree, who died in June 2000 at Hattiesburg, MS. I wasn't aware that he had married a 3rd time, but now we know he did. I wonder what became of wife #2, Ethel Ree Dupree? I don't have any death info on her, only that she was born 28 Mar 1925 in Smith County, MS. She would be 83 years old now, so she could still be living. Maybe they divorced? Ken
