I show: George& Mary Jane had Samuel, 1819; William M, 1821/married Mary J Downs; George Jr 1825; John J, 1826; Margaret, 1827 married Thomas Downs; Ann, abt 1829; Caroline, abt 1832; Henry; & Mary E, abt 1845 and married JJ Stewart in Cobb Co. Ga. The Downs/Steen families must have lived in the same community. I have been looking for Josiah (Chenola) Downs. Some years he is on the census and some not. I think he must have lived with the Indidans part time as he had an Indian wife, also. I haven't gotten to the children of these people yet. I am still looking for my great, great, greats. joan ________________________________ From: Ed Brown <ebrown7137@bellsouth.net> To: palmertree@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, March 7, 2009 8:53:20 AM Subject: Re: [PTREE] Downs obit. Hey Peggy, Yes, there has always been an abundance of food at the hoedowns, thanks to everybody who brought potluck to go with the catfish and ribs. I know I took pictures of the food at the first one. Two rows of tables, one row of just desserts. If anybody left hungry, it was their own fault. For the new list members, the hoedown started out to be a small gathering of list members just to get to know one another and was held at the Bagwell place in Poplar Creek May 5, '07. Somehow it grew and we had 150 people to show up. We had musicians from 4 states, BBQ ribs, fried catfish and loads of potluck. Probably one of the bigger events to ever take place in Poplar Creek. List members, family, friends and anybody who wanted to attend. We had folks from Georgia, Texas, Arkansas, Arizona, Oklahoma, California, Alaska and of course Miss. Was Tenn. represented? Where are you from Suzie? (Suzie went turkey hunting along the way, got one but didn't bring it!) We could have thrown it on the grill with the ribs! Last May we moved the hoedown to Uncle Hayden Green's place over between Huntsville and Stewart and that's where future hoedowns will be. The next one will be June 20 & 21 and everybody is welcome. Bring your own chairs and something to put on the table. Catfish, ribs and music are provided. If you're traveling and it's inconvient to bring food, then maybe something non-perishable or even a small donation to the rib & fish fund but that's not necessary. It's up to you to have a good time or not. Get up and dance if the urge strikes you or bring your instrument if you play and join the band. Singers are welcome too. If you have a community announcement, let us know. You can do it or somebody else will. Does anybody care to add anything to that? Take care everybody.........Donnie ----- Original Message ----- From: "peggy palmertree" <psmpalmertree@bellsouth.net> To: <PALMERTREE@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 07, 2009 6:11 AM Subject: [PTREE] hoedown pictures > > > In some of the very old pictures that Jeannine had put on line of her > grandmother's (or was the gr.grandmother's) there was a picture of the > table full of food.
