    3. Hey all u Cuz Sorry to hear about all of the bad weather you had the past few days. Here in PA cold and had snow on the cars in the morning. Weather like you get is one thing we do not have to worry about. Had a bad tornado about 10 years ago and watched it go right down the middle of the Ohio River into Pittsburgh. I had the kids in the bathroom in the basement and I was running around like a fool trying to open windows. Never thought about going to the bathroom on the 1st floor d/t risk of back flooding into the basement from the river. Hope everyone is well. I just got out of the hospital having a hitial hernia repair done last Thursday complicated by earlier surgery for Barrett's esophagus on my stomach and esophagus, so my stay was a bit longer that normal. But hope everyone else is healthy and safe Deb Peace granddaughter to Mamie Dell Varner Walker.

    2. Peggy, I don't have any long johns but when Joe woke up today, I was still in bed with my warm plush robe on, finishing up a good mystery book by my reading light. I'm normally an early riser, so Joe usually wakes up to a warm house and his coffee already in a thermos to stay fresh & hot. This morning, HE had to go turn the thermostat up and turn on the coffee pot. We both like to sleep in a cooler house. He said it sure took a long time to make coffee. I guess he is spoiled. I did run vinegar through the coffeemaker recently, does the bought coffee pot cleaner work better than vinegar? Later, Nova . **************Feeling the pinch at the grocery store? 2. Well, the dire predictions did not come true, for us anyway. We had rain yesterday but no snow or ice last night. So many important things were canceled, just in case. The little spots of rainwater on our driveway hadn't even frozen. Joe said he should be a weatherman, that he could tell last night the way the snow pattern looked on tv, that it wasn't coming to us. But I guess they have to warn people, just in case. The western and northern parts of OK did get lots of snow. But they always do. But it does feel like winter again. 3. I have been buying cinnamon capsules at Sam's Club for a couple of years now. Each capsule is 500 mg and I take one three times a day....that should be at least a gram. Don't bake much so I don't use it that often. I sprinkle it over baked apples ... that's about it. I switched to Splenda to try and cut back on sugar. ----- Original Message ----- From: "peggy palmertree" <psmpalmertree@bellsouth.net> To: <PALMERTREE@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, March 27, 2009 6:08 PM Subject: [PTREE] cinnamon > > > Just how much would you say 6 gm. of cinnamon was? Then the stories > stopped and I don't see anything but a mention on the Mayo Clinic web site > that says studies didn't back up the claims about cinnamon. It's very > vague ... There was something on People's Pharmacy though - about cinnamon and vinegar. I remeber reading about vinegar in a book popular back in the 60s - written by a m.d. and about folk remedies. I have copied the part below from People's Pharmacy. I know a lot of people our age are having to watch out for this problem. *********** Q. I suffer with type 2 diabetes. My doctor prescribed Glucotrol for my blood sugar. It helped to a degree, but I have found that by adding apple cider vinegar and cinnamon to a careful diet, I can control my blood sugar even better. I know I haven?t made this up, but are there any data showing that these natural remedies work? A. There are. High-carbohydrate meals containing white bread or rice can raise blood sugar. We would not have imagined that vinegar could counteract this effect, but there is growing evidence to support your experience. Scientists in Sweden report that vinegar given with white bread reduces blood sugar and insulin. It also helps people feel fuller up to two hours later (European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Sept. 2005). Japanese researchers have found that vinegar can counteract the effect of white rice on blood sugar. And investigators at Arizona State University report that two tablespoons of vinegar before a starchy meal can significantly reduce the rise in blood glucose (Diabetes Care, Jan. 2004). There is also research showing that one to six grams of cinnamon daily can lower cholesterol, triglycerides and blood sugar levels (Diabetes Care, Dec. 2003). > > > > Ken, I don't think this mentions gout, but what the heck, couldn't > hurt. 2. Peggy, you mentioned fruit trees, I should have known we would get snow or frost because my one peach tree is getting green way too early. It usually does. Our weather is so crazy, summer shirts one day and winter coats the next. Always been like that. You know the old joke, 'If you don't like the weather, hang around a day or two." Ken, the only thing I know about gout is that my nephew around 50 yrs old is not supposed to eat much red meat because of gout. I think the raisins and gin would work just as well by eating the raisins and drinking the gin. Are they supposed to ferment or something? My uncle ate the recommended number of gin soaked raisins every afternoon until he died. He really believed in them. He was about ninety by then. I hope you feel better soon. 1. [PTREE] arthritis raisins
    2. Ken Jackson
    3. Dorothy, I had heard of this remedy a few years ago, but didn't think any more about it until your note. It is a folk cure for arthritis, and can be used for any form of arthritis, including gout. I think I will skip this one, since gin doesn't like me. Back in my wild 30s when I lived in Memphis, I had gone to a bar one night and had copious amounts of gin (mixed with something). Well, about 4 a.m. the next morning I woke up sprawled out on the hood of my Oldsmobile in the bar's parking lot. I decided to try to get home and guess I made it somehow. The next day I was telling my apartment neighbor about it and I told her I didn't remember driving home. She said, "well, I bet that man in front of you and that man behind you remember you driving home!" I thought that was so hilarious. So I guess cherry juice will hopefully work... Ken
