    2. I hope everyone has a Safe and Happy 4th Of July Weekend. Thinking about all our guys in the military, the many we've lost and the retired ones who have already finished their military duty. I love you guys and gals!! I was very proud to raise our four children on and around AF Bases. One time in the high desert, we lived in a little town close to George Air Force Base. I was working as an ele. school teacher's aide. in Adelanto. At the end of the day, the children all went to different home rooms grouped by their buses or walking or picked up etc. They soon realized that one group contained most of the children with the highest grade averages, they started trying to figure out why? Being myself I could not help ask innocently. "Which bus do they ride?" and one person said "That's the on base bus group" Yeaaaaa! Let's hear it for the Military Brats!!!!! Now, there were lots of other AF kids living off base also, but it just happened to work out the way it did. These were the K-3 kids. By then my own kids were in 6th, 8th, 9th grades. Has anyone seen a good movie lately? They don't seem to be making them for me anymore. I guess I am completely out of the target group. Yet, I know lots of people who would go IF there was a movie with a really good story line. It was so hot on the front porch this morning I didn't stay too long. The flies are really bad right now, we usually don't have them much at all. So sitting there hot and having to keep my arms moving to keep the flies off was not very relaxing, Joe said he sprayed something around before I went out, but I also bought something HotShot for flying things, listed house flies etc. I'm going out early in the morning while our coffee perks and spray. Don't know why they have gotten so bad just lately. I've got meat loaf baking, that sounded good today. With Joe's dental troubles, I have not cooked meat lately unless it was in stews or soups etc, but wanted to cook beef today and this meatloaf will be just perfect for both of us. We have a get-together tomorrow to go to, but this will just be a lazy day around here. I hope you guys all have a good day today. Later Nova

    3. Yea, I love the fried okra too and roasted corn on the cob.. and of course I have to have my buttermilk cornbread... yum yum... -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] Sent: Friday, June 24, 2011 3:03 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [PTREE] Oh Lordy, peas and cornbread and a porkchop!! Ed, Shhhh don't let Joe hear you say that about a pork chop. He loves those things fried but has had dental work he is still slowly recovering from. Has started eating almost normally but the way he likes his pork chops fried crispy, I don't think he could handle one, its been a while since I fried him anything, I bet he would love it. I would throw in some fried okra if I was cooking that meal today. Later Nova .

    3. I hear the name Lake Wales on news reports all the time but wasn't sure where it was. It is about two hours west of Dunedin -- 83 miles -- according to Google. That is on the far side of Tampa. 1. Re: [PTREE] Gardening...
    2. I will have to buy whatever I cook this year, never got anything planted. There is a new stand in Lexington,Ok, where a few friends and I like to visit, it is a little ways south of here. It may be time to take another trip, they had wonderful peaches last year. Don't know what they would have now, maybe better to call first. I had lots and lots of peaches to put in the freezer last year, they freeze most years before they get blooms so I really worked on getting them picked, washed, peeled and cut up and in the freezer. I did a basket early every morning. They look dark but turn the most wonderful color when I am cooking them with sugar to make pies. Yes, I have a great pie crust recipe but being lazy, I asked Joe to bring me 3 different kinds of pie crusts when he goes to Walmart later today. I want to try them out. Do you have a favorite bought crust? Field's Pecan Pies are made in Pauls Valley, OK., you can stop in at their outlet store there and buy the crusts already in the pie tins. They were good with these peaches last year. Later Nova . In a message dated 6/24/2011 10:27:40 A.M. She said someone may be coming this weekend that can help with her computer. I hope so. I really miss all her interesting news items from the newspapers. She said she and Basil were both fine. I know how frustrating having computer problems can be. She said tell everyone hello and said if anyone is not busy, come on over and help her shell purple hull peas or do I have that backwards? for all I know, it could be hull purple shell peas? It was really good to talk to her. Again about Memphis Beat with Jason Lee, Ed, I noticed a blurb about it on my AOL news and followed up on it and people were complaining about 2-3 things about it. They were saying Jason is way too skinny this time, plus some change up in partners? and like Dorothy wondered why it was being filmed in New Orleans instead of Memphis. That last one about where it is filmed probably has to do with money. I liked the little guy who played his partner, oh yes, D.J. Qualls as Davey Sutton. he has a nose like they used to talk about Bob Hope, a ski run or something like that. He is a funny guy. Alfre Woodard as his boss Lt. I love the actress playing Jason Lee's mother. it listed her as Celia Weston didn't list the character's name. and I had completely forgotten that George Clooney was one of the six executive producers. Anyway others are Sam Hennings as Charlie "Whitehead" White and a couple of other regulars. Hope they haven't changed it up to much this year, people sure have been discussing the changes and not liking them saying when you have a good show like it was last season, don't mess with it. Because I have always loved to sew and make clothes at least until I gained weight, I always try to catch some of Project Runway. Some of those girls and guys are really creative and can whip a beautiful dress or suit or pants suit in no time and it really looks nice and I can't believe how others can whip up such nonsense or tacky things. That is how my Mom cut and sewed lots of things over the years, she would cut her own pattern and make really pretty clothes for all of us. It was a real shame when she lost her sight where she could not do that, she spent a lot of happy hours sewing all kinds of stuff, even dressing dolls for the Norman Christmas Store. Joe and I have a beautiful new little great granddaughter. Little Miss Collins Sophia Hornback. The only thing wrong with her is, she lives with her parents in San Diego. But they are great about sending photos out often. But that's not like hugging and kissing her in person. I have been wondering about something. Have all the older Palmertree photos been shared? I remember him talking about that once. He is already in bed or I would ask him. Probably so it wouldn't embarrass his mom. ha I remember my Mom telling a story about how she told me she didn't want to hear that the teacher told me to not talk too much in class when I was about in 1st grade and I told the teacher the next day that my Mom didn't want to hear that she said that to me again. The teacher told Mom she knew exactly how that Mom had meant it and had secretly laughed all day about it. I still can hear my mother in law Geraldine saying to her kids "The road to He** is paved with good intentions." I had never heard that until I heard her saying it. I think I will say that to Joe the next time he forgets something, like something he forgot today. He'll say "Well, I sure meant to get it, but just forgot." Does anyone else like Memphis Blues the TV show on TNT? Jason Lee, I love to hear him sing those Elvis songs. and his mother's southern accent, she loves Elvis & rock & roll too. I missed the first couple of episodes this summer I think, but will catch it in reruns, TNT does do lots of reruns. Guess I need to call Peggy tomorrow to see what is up or down with her. Take care. 3. Nova, I knew you lived around OKC but I didn't know where exactly. It has been a long time since I was there. When Dorothy mentioned Tampa I got to wondering if she lived somewhere close. I had a friend that lived around there but I have lost her and can't find her. Since everyone has cell phones now days you can't find people in phone books anymore. Darn, I hate that. 3. I have a few purple hull peas growing in my garden but only a few germinated. This has not been a good gardening year. It rained Wed. night and again Thurday afternoon for a few minutes. It has started clouding up now and is headed this way but you never can tell. It may skip us and dump everything on Tampa. We aren't complaining because we need the rain. It has been really hot down here. We had no spring to speak of, it just got hot suddenly. Just talked to Donnie G. this morning. He still doesn't have his computer online yet. They are still working on his house. He and his brother both had dr. appts today. Well, Joe and I have had none of the damage you might have heard on the news about OK wind or tornadoes. Weather comes through here in strips, but all from the SW. The day, I think it was the 14th there was so much damage and they show some of it on Utube etc, I went into the storm shelter and Joe sat outside of it and watched things but we didn't even have leaves blown off trees. So Thankful. I have chicken cooking to make chic and dumplings. I make the easy delicious Bisquick ones. None of that long rolling and cutting thin strips of dough for the dumplings Mom made, they were delicious but if we like the easy bisquick kind, that's what I am going to make. A cousin sent me Paula Deen's recipe for Lemon Blossom mini cupcakes. it makes 5 doz. I had bought pans and never used them so this was a great first use. I took a basket to the research library to share with the other volunteers. I don't like paper on cupcakes so will not make more than two pans which is still 48 mini muffins and made Joe a few reg. size ones. With out the papers I would have had to wash those mini pans between each use and can't see that happening!! They have a lemon glaze over them and are delicious. Well, not knowing if anyone is getting this, I will close and see if I hear from anyone. 1. Re: [PTREE] I like The Closer also!!
    2. I'm glad you mentioned that show. That is one of my favorites! She just tickles me to death. I used her "Kill em with kindness" move one day last year. I was in line to pay, the checker and I were having a hard time doing something, I can't even remember what now and some lady? behind us was making noises like extra loud sighs or something and when we finished the transaction, I turned and said in Brenda's overly sweet & kindest way and said my apologies and she stuttered and stammered and never really got any words out. But jeez, it was not like we were slowing her down on purpose! I like how she turned the whole squadron into her supporters instead of them all leaving like they aimed to after she got the job. Well, it is almost my bedtime and guess what I just heard starting to rumble and rumble outside? Yep, loud thunder! It should be against the rules for it to be nice all day and then start that at 11:26 at night. I don't want to have to turn on the news again. Guess I will try to check it online.
