If I'm not mistaken, Becky was just a little tiny baby when he killed himself, or maybe even not born yet. She never knew her dad. Sad.. Mrs. Ruby raised 5 kids pretty much on her own.. She lost her son Bernard a few years ago, to a heart attack, I think. Rhonda, Larry, Becky and Ben still all live around close. Larry/Rhonda live in Kosciusko, Becky and Ben at French Camp. Ben was driving home from Pennsylvania last night, he works pipeline. I talked a while with my sister n law a good while last night (Larry Steven's daughter). Mrs. Ruby was seemingly doing well-- this past weekend, Monica and her family drove out to French Camp Saturday morning and Mrs. Ruby made Homemade biscuits and sausage, etc for them, and they ate breakfast. Then She and daughter Becky kept Monica's 4 girls so Bryant and Monica could do some Christmas shopping. Becky asked Mrs.Stevens if she wanted her to take the girls to her house and spend the night rather than Mrs.Ruby's. Her reply was no because she was 83 and this time next year she might not be able to keep kids-- she wanted to enjoy this time with her girls. So they all spent the night, then Bryant and Monica returned on Sunday, went to church w/ Mrs. Ruby and ate lunch with her. (she was a good cook) Everything Monica knows about cooking she learned from Mrs. Ruby, and she said her first Turkey, "grandmommy" talked her through the whole thing, starting at 6 AM.. over the phone. They found her in her bed, on her side, covered up, Coroner says she passed about midnight. In her own home, own bed.. not needing alot of help her last few years, I think the Lord blessed her and the whole family in that way. They didnt' have to watch her suffer -- like with so many diseases, including cancer. THIS IS THE WAY I WANT TO GO.. I would like to go to sleep in my own bed, and wake up with Jesus! (I may not get that choice, who knows.. but it is the best way to go, I can think of!) I hope all of you have a BLESSED Thanksgiving! The Omaha World Herald Omaha, NE January 6, 1947 Golden Weddings Habit in Family Koscisuko, MS - Golden wedding anniversaries are the accepted thing among found members of one Attala County family, who have a combined total of 230 years of married life. Martin Harlan Tyler and Ora Lee Campbell have been married 60 years; Rosa Florence Tyler and Benjamin Zachery Stephens 60 years; Jennie Geneva Tyler and the Rev. J. M. Palmertree 57 years, and Harden D. Tyler and Sippie Lee Harvey 53 years. Ken
The Times-Picayune New Orleans, LA December 25, 1983 Official's personal use of computer is studied Clinton, MS - Hinds County Data Processing Director Ray Palmertree's use of county computers for personal profit may be investigated by the state Department of Audit and the city of Clinton, officials said. Palmertree had been preparing Clinton's tax rolls on the computers. County Board of Supervisors President Roger Stewart said the board decided unanimously after meeting in closed session with Palmertree to excuse his use of the county's equipment for private gain in return for his agreement to let the county receive the $2,400 he requested from Clinton for preparing its tax rolls this year. The supervisors also voted to allow Palmertree to keep the $6,750 he collected from Clinton between 1976 and January 1983. But Assistant Attorney General P. L. Douglas said state law prohibits any use of public property for private gain, even if approved by county officials. Ken
Gang, I remember O.D. had told me/us of this, but don't know if the newspaper article was ever sent to the list: The Times-Picayune New Orleans, LA December 19, 1912 Page 7 KILLS HIS FRIEND PLAYING WITH GUN R. L. Pomertree Shot Down by Brother-in-Law Accidentally. Returning From Poker Game. Ruleville, MS, Dec. 18 - R. L. Pomertree, living four miles northeast of Ruleville, was killed about 4 O'clock this morning by his brother-in-law, D. R. Hollie, who claims the killing was accidental. These two and two others were returning, it seems, from an all-night poker game, and stopped on the road and took a drink, when, it is said, Pomertree emptied his pistol in the air, Hollie said:" Don't, Bob, you know I am afraid of shooting:. Bob shot the pistol, and claimed he was shooting in the air, When he had finished shooting Pomertree and a bullet in his neck, and died immediately. Pomertree was reared here, here, while Hollie was from Carroll County, MS, coming here some time ago. He says he would not have killed Pomertree for the world, as he was his best friend. Hollie gave bail, and will be held for examination Monday. Ken
Gang, Thought for sure I had found the reason N.B . Palmertree had been pardoned, but am just more confused now. He was accused and convicted of killing Jack North in 1932. However, I found this article regarding the murder of a Jack North, too. Is it possible to have two Jack Norths in the same area in the 1930s? ---------------------------------------------------------- The Dallas Morning News Dallas, TX December 17, 1932 MURDER CASE DEFENDANT FOUND INSANE BY COURT Fort Worth, Texas, Dec. 16 - Burt Jones, murder defendant, was declared insane by a lunacy court jury late Friday after an all-day hearing in which X-ray photographs showing a bullet in Jones' brain figured prominently. The verdict was in the face of a chain of State's witnesses, including both city and county officers, who asserted that nothing in Jones' conduct over many years had indicated to them that he was unbalanced mentally. Indictments charging Jones with the fatal shooting, March 18, 1931, of Jack North at the White City Dinner Club and with four burglaries of Fort Worth residences lay upon the counsel table during the trial. Jones' mother, Mrs. J. L. Jones of Houston, repeated her story at the trial's opening, relating that her son had carried a pistol bullet for twenty-eight years in the front portion of his brain. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Newt B. Palmertree was accused of killing Jack North on September 19, 1932 in Lamar County, Texas. What do you think?? Ken

Ken, or No Show George Jones. ha ha I knew Peggy would be kidding you, once you're back on the line. I think she waited a whole two days this time. Love it!!! We had been in OK for 10 years at this time, but you would have thought my familyt would have heard about this from their friends and Granny's relatives Whitson and also the Deans still living down there, not that far from Paris. But I know they hid stuff that wasn't bad at all from us kids. Before Mom passed away in 09 she was telling me about who all played dominoes with her and Dad and other relatives and friends in Wynnewood View, she whispered that one neighbor cheated, it has been 65 yrs since those domino games 70 miles south of here but there in the nursing home 2009, she was whispering that to me. So you can tell how she would have been about a murder. Dad's older brother Johnnie witnessed a shooting by a neighbor while they still lived in Texas. I have the court receipt where he was paid for being away from the farm work that day $1. and I think 68 cents for riding his horse from near Detroit to Clarksville. The neighbor's name was Ward, but I don't think it told who he shot. John William P'tree was about 21, I haven looked at that paper in a while. But after the trial the neighbors were threatening him and Grandpa sent him off to Red Springs Tx for a while. I also a letter he wrote back to his Mom and Dad asking if things were alright with those neighbors and something about taking care of his saddle, also that it was really cold where ever he was that the only thing between him and a norther was a bob wire fench and it was blowed down in places. I tried to research it one time and found Texas has had three Red Springs towns or communitys so don't know which one but must have been in the north part. I have no idea if he was staying with someone they knew, that almost had to be it. This was in 1919 I think and they grandpa and grandma and all their children moved to OK in late 1921. I've always wondered if that had something to do with them coming to OK. Lots of those Wards around there and in Clarksville. I met some on a trip there. The Clarksville Courthouse is a beautiful building with a golden dome etc. They refurbished it a few years ago. . In a message dated 11/22/2011 10:14:22 P.M. Other desserts will be brought by family. Peggy's always saying "Don't eat too much", but I say EAT IT ALL!! Besides Thanksgiving only comes once a year. To that I say, quoting one of my favorite hymns: ---------------------------------------------------------- We gather together to ask the Lord's blessing; He chastens and hastens His will to make known. The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing. Sing praises to His Name; He forgets not His own. Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining, Ordaining, maintaining His kingdom divine; So from the beginning the fight we were winning; Thou, Lord, were at our side, all glory be Thine! We all do extol Thee, Thou Leader triumphant, And pray that Thou still our Defender will be. Let Thy congregation escape tribulation; Thy Name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free! Ken PS- Speaking of HA! - Anyone heard from O.D. lately? I know I've been incognito, but it is most unusual for him not to have a note or two online. Just wondering if things are ok with his health? Guess I'll have to ping him and find out.... The lady's name is Alvia Olivia Talbert. Her maiden name was Howell. She was married to Willie B. Talbert. On the 1900 census it says Talbot. They had three children at that time of death Dec 21 1904. Emma,Arthur and Ruby. After their mom died the kids all went to live with grandpa and grandma Howell. Good luck finding something. Gang, Wanted to wish all of you a safe and happy Thanksgiving. I've been up early, cooking for tomorrow. Helping bake the cornbread for the dressing, cooking the chicken for the juice for the dressing, preparing the sweet potato casserole to cook in the morning, and will be helping make sugar-free brownies and stuffed eggs late this afternoon. Happy Thanksgiving! Ken ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----
Hey Mrs. Peggy, Our kids just sang at the benefit for him and his family a couple weeks back. Our good friends knew them. He had a terrible 4 wheeler accident. His wife's name is Amy and he had a 5 year old son. So sad! And I don't know if anyone on here knew Mrs. Ruby Stevens of French Camp, She passed away last night. She was still living at home, in her 80's.. Sad to lose loved ones around the holidays.. We need to pray for them. Makes me think Of Don Grice, too.. Daddy will be gone 7 years on Dec. 13th, hard to believe. Which also means Kildee Walker 7 years too, cause he died about a week after daddy, if not sooner. I know it was close. HOPE EVERYONE ON HERE HAS A VERY BLESSED THANKSGIVING! Tell Tootie I said hello!
