Knauss Family Ludwig Knauss, the progenitor of the Knauss family in Lehigh Co, emigrated to America in 1732 from Titelsheim, Wetteravia, in the Palatine, and settled in Whitemarsh, Montgomery Co. He married Anna Margaret Goerlach and had a number of children, among whom were; John Henry, Sebastian Henry, Maria Catharine, born at Whitemarsh, Feb 16, 1734, married Andrew Giering and Sophia, born at Whitemarsh, Nov 28, 1737, and died April 9, 1813. She married in 1756 to Ludwig Andres. John George and Gottfried Knauss of Whitehall twp, were probably also sons of Ludwig, and also Ludwig Knauss, of Easton. John Henry Knauss, eldest son of Ludwig, was born June 15, 1712, and died June 6, 1761. He married Dec 31, 1737 to Maria Catharine Roeder, born March 24, 1720. They had children, John born 1738, died 1847, Adam, born 1741, died the same year, Michael and Martin, born July 26, 1743, died Feb 3, 1820, he married 1sr to Sept 10, 1765 to Anna Elizabeth Romig, born March 18, 1743, and died March 16, 1777, and 2nd June 12, 1780, to Hannah Margaret Frank, of Schoeneck, born July 10, 1740, died March 26, 1817. He had 7 children in his 1st marriage, Catharine born 1760, died 1838, married John Adam Romig, Frederick, born 1768, John Henry, 1769, Anna Elizabeth, 1771, Michael born 1773, Magdalena, 1775, John 1776. In his 2nd marriage he had a son, Abraham, born 1781. Sebastian Herny Knauss, 2nd son of Ludwig, was born in Titelsheim, Oct 6, 1714, and was about 9 years old when he accompained his paretns to America. On New Year's Day, 1741 he married Anna C. Transue, who had emigrated from the same district in 1730. His wife was the d/o Abraham Trauseau and his wife Elizabeth Munster, of Mutterstadt, where she was born March 6, 1722. She died at Emaus, June 6, 1799. Mr. Knauss ded Feb 26, 1777 The children of Sebastian H. and Anna Catharine were;1. Henrich, 1741, married 1766 to Anna Maria Ehrenhard, they had 13 children of whom Jacob, born Nov 20, 1777, and his son Henry, born July 12, 1812. 2. Catharie, born 1743 married Conrad Ernst, who emigrated from Wold Angelloch in the Palatinate. 3. Anna Maria, 1744, married Tobias Moyer, of Heidelberg twp. 4. Johannes born 1748, married Catharine Romig, settled near Emaus. 5/ Joseph, 1750, married Magdalena Boekel, of Heidelberg and went to NC. 6. Elizabeth, born 1753 married John Fredericik Romig of Emaus. 7. Abraham 1755, 8. Jacob, 1757, married Rosina Corr. 9. JOhn Ludwig, born 1759, 1st settled at Scheoneck and later emigrated to Ohio, married Magdalena Klein. 10. Philip 1767-1789, 11. Magdalena born 1761, married Joseph Clewell, of Emaus. 12 Anna Johanna born 1765, married George Clewell of Schoenck. 13. Leonard, born 1745, died 1823, married 1769 to Johanna Salome Miller. Anna Catharine (Transue) Knauss died June 26, 1799, besides her 13 children, there were 91 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren. John Knauss, s/o John, was born May 22, 1775, and died March 14, 1861. He married in 1804 to Maria Theresa Tool, and had children; Paul, William, Charles, John, Aquila, Hannah married Frederick T. Iobst, Anna Maria married Franz Philip Iobst, and Catharine married John W. Seip John Knauss, 3rd son of Sebastian, was born Nov 6, 1748, near Emaus, he died May 23, 1822. He married March 31, 1772 to Catharine d/o Frederick Romig. She was born Oct , 1748, and died July 3, 1816. Children; John, Magdalena, married Thomas Everett, Catharine married Henry Leibert, Anna Maria married Henry Christ, Jacob married Lydia Leibet, John Philip, married Magdalena Wuench, Abraham died young, and a dau. who died in infancy. Aquila Knauss, was born in Emaus, March 6, 1819. He married Margaretta Weiler, d/o George Weiler and his wife, born Schaeffer, of Berks Co. Children; Mrs. H. J. Balliet, George F., Oliver J., Mrs. Harry Jarrett, Oscar P. and Albert W. The father died in 1896 and the mother in 1907. Oscar Penrose Knauss, of Macungie, was born at Emaus, Sept 4, 1859. He married in 1880 to Sarah L. d/o Christian and Sarah (Kidd) Kemmerer, of Hanover twp. They had one son, Eugene, who died at age 8. Albert W. s/o Aquila, of Allentown, was born at Emaus, Oct 26, 1861. He married 1882 to Tevillia Kressly, d/o Levi and and Amanda (Sherer) Kressly. Children; Millie died 1900, w/o John Butz, Edgar W., Ella V., Fred G., Lizzie I., Claude R/, Carrie M., and Earl E. George, s/o Aquila, of Topton, Berks Co. married Annie Hittle, d/o Joseph and Maria. Children; Robert L., Alfred S., Walter E., of Allentown, William A., of E. Macungie, Howard A., Milton O., Ralph O., of Topton, Eula A., unmarried. George I. Howard A., s/o George E., was born at E. Macungie, Lehigh Co, Oct 14, 1876. He married Jan 1896, to Addie S. Gery, d/ol Nathan S. and Eleanor (Bastian) Gery. Children, Howard, of Reading. Milton O., of Catasauqua, was born at Macungie, Feb 19, 1885. He married Sept 24, 1904 to Ada DeLong, d/o Tilghman and Angelina (Fenstermacher) DeLong of Topton, and they had an adopted daughter, Mabel Isabella Knauss. Best Wishes, Geri
