    3. Brown, Adam, the grandfather of Samuel A. Brown, was descended from German ancestery and a native of Northampton Co. and moved to Lehigh Co., He married Margaret Spait, whose son, Paul, born on the 24th of Feb. 1807, in Northampton Co, resided in North Whitehall township, Lehigh Co. He married Maria Wotring, of the same county. Children; Elizabeth, Samuel A., Stephen P., Kittie Ann, Louisa R., P. Franklin and Hiriam Evan. Samuel A., was born Oct 2, 1833 in North Whitehall. He married in 1868 to Amanda M., d/o Stephen Graff, of North Whitehall. Members of the Lutheran Church. Brown, Stephen P., the grandson of Adam and Margaret (Spait), and the son of Paul and Maria (Worting) Brown. He maried in 1859 to Elmina d/o Thomas Ruch, of North Whitehall. Children; Edward S., Laura C., Annie C., and Elmer J. livings and Hiram T., Wilson P. and Lizzie, deceased. In 1831, John Clark, son-in-law of John Newhard, erected a large house in Whitehall. This property was sold by the sheriff, May 6, 1833, and bought by John Newhard and other, and sold by them. Newhard. Daniel, the eldest son of Frederick Newhard, acquired the homestead of his father Nov 13, 1795, and held it to his death, Sept 14, 1840. He left 8 children; Jonathan, Charles, Abraham, Henry, James, Reuben, Anna, w/o John Marcks and Catharine. Of these, Reuben, Jonathan and Henry occupied the land with the homestead. Charles bought a tract in S. Whitehall. James settled near Egypt. Abraham and Jonathan settled on the homestead. The southeastern portion of the original George Frederick Newhard tract was owned by his son, Lawrence, until his death, in 1817. He had 10 children; Frederick, Christian, John Jacob, Peter of Allentown, John, David, Daniel, Elizabeth w/o John Moll, of Allentown Anna Maria, w/o Daniel Yundt, Sallie w/o John Yundt. Of these the 1st named moved West. Peter was a blacksmith and lived in Allentown. John of Allentown, where he died in 1850, aged 67. He had two sons-Paul and Joseph, and four daughter, Deborah, w/o Thomas Clark who setted in the township, Eliza, w/o Selligman Butz, who moved West, Caroline, w/o Jones George of Allentown, Elenora, w/o William Mullen. Ruch, George came from Alsace. He was born 1664, and died at the age of 105. The land he settled upon descended, on his death, to his son, Lawrence Ruch, born 14 Nov 1744. He died 27 Oct 1825. He married a Miss Knouse and left 2 sons, Christian who moved to NY and Peter, who was born 28 Feb 1799. During the War of 1812 he commanded the Whitehall Troop, which was for a while was in active service with the 2nd war with Great Britain. Gen. Ruch died 19 Nov 1838, aged 59. He married 13 March 1801, Susanna Schreiber, they were married for 37years. Children, William, David, and Major Thomas Ruch. Best Wishes, Geri
