whitehall twp. alexander diefenderfer, the first of the family, emigrated from the palatinate on the rhine. landed at phila. sept 21, 1727, ship william and sarah. he settled in buck co., pa. among his children were godfrey and margaret, the latter of whom was born sept. 18, 1729. in 1750, godfrey moved to macungie, where he lived till his death. he married may 3, 173 and had 6 children, to wit; john jan 25,1754, gertraut, july 19. 1757, margaret and jacob, twins, june 26, 1759, henry, feb 3, 1754, and phillip, aug 3, 1772. henry one of the sons, married susan jarrett. john diefenderfer, eldest son of godfrey, was married to charlotte elisabeth shankweilder, feb 8,1781, d/o jacob and elisabeth shankweilder of grumbach, germany, born march 23, 1759. john diefenderfer moved to northampton co (whitehall) where he died 1815. he had 5 children, margaret, w/o peter newhard of allentown, abraham of allentown, isaac and jacob died young and john.
