northampton co. knecht, jefferson f. postmaster at copella, moore twp., was born nov. 19, 1860, s/o jackson nd phoebe (davidson) knecht. he marrid ellen j. schall, dec. 24, 1887, d/o jacob schall of moore twp. children, warren j., and eva m... members of the lutheran ch. at moorestown. knecht, howard r., of lower saucon. the knecht family in the last century resided in palatinate germany. his ancestor john jacob knecht with 59 of his neighbors and relatives came on the allen, james craig, master, and became settlers in williams township, 1734. a son of john jacob, jonas george was born may 5, 1740, died feb. 21, 1823. his wife anna maria, was born sept. 29, 1752, died feb. 12, 1813. their son john, subject's grandfather, was born july 1, 1778, married sarah ruth stahler, who was born sept. 10, 1782, the former died sept. 17, 1814. john knecht next in the line of descent, born in williams township, aug. 5, 1814 being the 2nd son in the family. his mother died when he was very young and his father died when he was 12. his uncle aaron knecht of williams twp., took charge of him. in feb. 2, 1841 to eliza e. reigel, d/o benjamin and elisabth. mr. and mrs. knecht had 7 children, arabella, w/o dr. j. j.. detwiller, of easton, emily, wf of dr. e.j. freeman, of freemansburg, annie and howard r., sallie, w/o dr. r.h. sheppard, of phillipsburg, n.j., john, died age 40, benjamin died in infancy. howard r. knecht, was born in shimersville, sept. 4, 1856, on sept. 21, 1882 he married laurenti, d/o dr. b.c. walter of farmersville. children; two died early, florence anna, born feb. 8, 1883 and john walter, born feb 8, 1885. members of the reformed ch. of freemansburg.
