ochs, tilghman, of allentown, was born march 1, 1832. he was a member of the reformed ch. in the year 1854 he married sarah s. long, native of montgomery co. she died aug 29, 1899. he died dec. 8, 1913 at no. 44l turned st. allentown. children; milton t.j., john v.a. married annie moyer, oscar h. e., ida a.s. married lewis hamman, emma m,, married oscar keck, henry u.s., clinton m.f. married sallie schmoyer, emlina g. a. married c.c. vogt, and florence l. m., widow of oscar wilson, late of phila. milton tilhaman jacob ochs was married to louisa oppenlander, d/o gottlieb and catharine (wurst) oppenlender, of bucks co., and they had 15 children; milton t. j. jr., died in an accident, kate, susan, harry, tilghman, anna florence, mattie, matilda, erie jacob, robert emanuel, alfred long, millie louisa, helen gertrude, susie, olive, esther ruth, nan ruth, frances miriam and richard paul. on schoeder, early members of the family used the forms of schrawder, schreader, schroeder and schrader. I had an article publishd in KENTUCKY ANCESTORS (My 1st one) in which I tried to explain this sorting out of names and spellings by sound, to no avail, it seems, as, when I emailed the Head of the KY History Center re the publication number being dated two years before arrival, I got a short answer. So, I know he has gotten some flack, but there are many, many people who do not know their surnames were spelled in a different way, way back when. I even brought it out that the people who were douing the PA ARCHIVES, had WORTHAMPTON CO., instead of NORTHAMPTON. W/M/N can be taken for each other from deciphering by different people, because they don't realize the possibilities here. I even found a PHITZSIMMONS in Sumner Co., TN, when I was working on an F name. I then wrot a cousin, and she said "No wonder we can't find these people. Only she put an ! after it. After all, could the GRIDER family of Warren Co., KY also be the KREIDER family of PA???? This Catharine Wurst came from Germany to U.S. as a married woman. She has no other known Wurst relatives in U.S. Allentown Morning Call, Saturday, August 5, 1905 - Obituaries Mrs. Catherine Openlander, widow of Gottlieb Openlander, died yesterday at the residence of her son-in-law, Herman W. Kline, no. 315 North Ninth Street, of diabetes and dropsy of the heart. She was 80 years of age and was born in Wurtemburg, Germany. She lived for many years at Passer, Bucks County. The deceased is survived by 49 descendants, eight children, 52 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. The children are : Mrs. M.T.J. Ochs, Mrs. Frank Heimbach and Mrs. Herman Kline of Allentown; Mrs. Benjamin Crager of Philadelphia; Mrs. Jacob Nonnemacher, Perkasie; Mrs. Henry Stadinger, Shelly, Berks County; Wm. Openlander, Palmyra, N. J. and Emanuel Openlander of Passer. She also leaves two sisters and one brother, who live in Germany. The funeral will take place on Monday afternoon at 12:30 o'clock from No. 316 North Ninth Street. The remains will be held in the Mennonite Church, with interment in the adjoining cemetery.
