Mother Hillman, as she was familiarly called, suffered during the past several years from bronchial troubles, yet was able at times to go out of doors. In the spring of 1851, they took up their residence at the old homestead, No. 102 Church Stree, this place, where Mr. Hillman died on March 30, 1870, and his widow also departed this life. Mr. and Mrs. Hillman were the pioneers of Methodism in the Bethlehems. Soon after taking up their residence here, they threw open their house to the Rev. M. A. DAY, of Philadelphia, a Methodist clergyman, and regular services were held there until Wesley M.E. Church was built in Center Street.
