Can anyone tell me where the subject Church and County are located. There is apparently some information on my Rumfield line in the records of this church. What area of the state is this in? Does anyone have access to the records from this church? I would appreciate any information. Thank you, Dick Sommer <rosommer@primenet.com>

I would try contacting your County Veteran's Affairs Office & explain the above. Hopefully they will know whom you should contact for additional information - or even if it can be found. Your local Veterans of Foreign Wars or Legion may also be able to help "brainstorm" for additional ideas of where to look. As a last resort, try your local congressman's office & ask them to look into it. If he was still in the military when he died, I would think the Department of the Army should have something, somewhere! I wish you the best of luck... -Linnea
Hi all, I am hoping someone out there can help me. Maybe someone has run into a similar problem. I am trying to get information on my great Uncle Christopher Schmerfeld. He was in World War One and died and is buried in the Phillipines. When I first attempted to get information, I wrote a letter to the national archives. They gave me a file number but, told me I need to write to the Dept of Veterans Affairs regional office in Philadelphia. So I wrote another letter and sent it to Philadelphia. Philadelphia's response was the records were in Washington state and needed to be sent for. This was back in January of this year. Philadelphia said they would send me the records as soon as they were received by them. In the mean time I wrote to the Personnel Dept of Veterans in St. Louis Missouri. Seeing that they had a fire back in 1973 and a lot of the records were destroyed, they sent me what they could reconstuct using other records. From Missouri I obtained a death date, place of death and enlistment information. I just received word from Philadelphia that they have no records for my uncle. What could have happened to the records? My uncle was never married and had no children. I am also wondering why he was buried in the Phillipines and never brought back to the states to be buried. Does anyone know who I have to contact to try to obtain a death certificate for him? He died 6 June 1929 in the US Army hospital-Sternberg General Hospital, Manila, Philippines. The Army is my only chance on obtaining information on him. Most of my relatives were unaware he even existed. If anyone knows how I can proceed from here please let me know. I am really curious as to how he died, if he had war injuries or just had gotten sick. Thank you for your help. Paula Konsavage Ray's Yankee! Hi Everyone This is to announce that I have started a new mailing list for Schuylkill Co. Pa. To subscribe in mail mode PASCHUYL-L-request@rootsweb.com for digest mode PASCHUYL-D-request@rootsweb.com Also I know some listowners do not want you to announce a new mailing list or put your url in your message. I have no problem with you senting a notice to the list for new mailing list or adding your url to your messages. As long as it is related to genealogy in Pennsylvania. The only thing I request is no message for commercial purposes. I don't like to see them on lists and I feel allot of others don't either. Now if you are offering lookups and asking for copying cost. I see nothing wrong in with that. If anyone has any question or comments please feel free to write me. I want to make this an enjoyable list for everyone. Thanks Judy Jackson Listowner judjack@rocketmail.com _____________________________________________________________________ Sent by RocketMail. Get your free e-mail at http://www.rocketmail.com

Hi Judy, I have two of your surnames, Bortz and Wetzel. Do you see any connection to them? John R. WEIDAW. He married Mary BORTZ in Allentown PA. ____________ Lena M. WETZEL. She married Benjamin Franklin CLIMES on 1 May 1892 in Summit CO OH. kough@juno.com
Hello Larissa. I have some TRACHSEL's and some TROXELL's in my TOPPER genealogy files. Would be most interested if you had som information on the line containing a William TROXELL who married a Mary A. TOPPER. Mary was my great aunt, daughter of my great-grandfather, Jacob I. TOPPER. Thanks in advance, top
First, thanks to Judy for her work on this list! This message is a tad long, because all the names are interconnected. I will do a separate one on the other side of my dad's family (Greenawalt). My Bortz family spent some time in Lehigh Co. before ending up in Berks Co. Here are the first three generations, from family Bibles: Salomon BORTZ (b.1793) m. (c. 1820) Anna Maria HOFFMANN (b.1797) Jonas BORTZ (b.1826, Macungie) m. (1846) Helene WETZEL (b. 1823, Macungie) Heinrich Franklin BORTZ (b.1863, Upper Milford, Lehigh) m. (1883, Bowers, Berks Co.) Sarah Anne BERG/BERK (b.1858) (my g'grandparents) Lehigh Co. locations are Macungie and Upper Milford. Here are the spouse families: Hoffmann - wife, first Bortz gen. -------- no info on her family - help! Wetzel - wife, second Bortz gen. ------ Jacob WETZEL m. Anna Maria --- Johann George WETZEL (26 Feb 1749 - 8 Feb 1834) m. (c. 1773) Eva Elizabetha KERCHNER (b.c.1755) Daniel WETZEL (11 Sep 1792 - 11 Aug 1870) m. Catharine BORGER (4 Apr 1802 - 4 Feb 1890) Helene WETZEL (12 Jan 1823, Macungie - 2 May 1900) m. Jonas BORTZ (22 Apr 1826, Macungie - 18 May 1897) I have read some books on Lewis Wetzel, "famous Indian fighter," and found that his father moved to Virginia (later W. Vir.) from Berks Co., and a branch stayed behind (Lewis' uncle). I would like to know more about that branch, to see if I connect to it. Anyone? Berg/Berk - wife, third Bortz gen. --------- Charles BERK? m. Catharine J. --- David BERK m. (1856) Mary Ann YODER (b. 1838) (David m. (2) Margaret RAPP) Sarah Anne BERG (b. 1858, Ontelaunee, Berks Co.) m. (1883, Bowers) Heinrich BORTZ (b.1863, Upper Milford) I am familiar with the great Yoder family association, so have lots of info on Mary Ann's family, but the Berk family is elusive. Some are buried at St. Peter's church in Molltown (but I forget if that is Lehigh or Berks). I'd also like to know more about the Rapp family. Borger ------ The Borger line is a Bortz mother-in-law, and may have been in Lehigh Co. Jonas BORGER m Christine --- Catharine BORGER (b.1802) m. Daniel WETZEL (b.1792) I am (very slowly) starting a Bortz one-name-study, so will take any Bortz references (no matter how slight), and tell people of any matches I find on their data, now or later. Once I can identify some lines, I will post some data. I do have pages from Lehigh and Berks histories. Guess that's all for this message! Hi all! I think I may be nuts for doing this but since fall is fast approaching and I have my new computer up and running, I thought I'd take a shot at this. Thanks to some new found cousins out there (you know who you are- HI!! Sorry I've been MIA!), I have a lot of information on my TRACHSEL/TROXEL side of the family in the way of names and dates. This is fun but I would love to see more, ie. where they were born, died, buried. In some cases, who they married or if they had any children and then who their children married and so forth. Sounds like the eternal quest of a genealogist doesn't it?? So what I am asking is for anyone who has a TRACHSEL/TROXEL (even just one!) in their family to please write me at the address below with the information you have. I will be most willing to share what I have now and will also be willing to share what I end up with if you are interested. I have a feeling I may end up with a bunch that I don't quite know where they fit in but with everyone's help, maybe I can tie them in! Thanks! Take care and have a good night! --Larissa Souzer larissa+@pitt.edu

HI You many know of this book. I came across it in the Emmaus Pa. library when I was up there in june. It's called the History of Lehigh Co. Pa. It's a three volume set. 2 of the volume are on Genealogical and Biographical. It list allot of the earlier families of Lehigh Co. I was able to copy information on the following families. Balliet Baker Deshler Dillinger Dreisbach Dubs Dull Kern Kerschner Leisenring Mickley Roth Schreiber Ruch Troxell Wirth Wisser Young Will be happy to share what I have. Most of the above are in the Schreiber line. A couple just happened to be on the page I was copying. If anyone has access to the books I would love to hear from them as I ran out of time and wasn't able to get several of the families I was looking for. The book was published in the early 1900's by Roberts and written or complied by Charles Rhoads (I believe).
