Those maps from the 1800's with landowners drawn in sounds like a terrific item. If anyone knows where to find them, I too, would like to know. :) looking forward to buying some maps. Elizabeth Giraffe39@aol.com
Hi, A couple of weeks ago, someone on either of these lists mentioned s/he had Lehigh county maps with landowners from the early 1800's drawn in on them. They were divided into townships and were available for sale. I thought I kept that post, but.......Anyone have that reference they could pass on? Thanks. Cheers Heidi in Sugar Land TX

Hello. I am very new at this and I do not know how to ask for help, so please forgive my informality. HELP!! I am searching for any LOOPER (LUPER/LOPER/LUPPER) prior to 1790. My ggggrandfather was Daniel Looper(Luper). He died between March and August 1808 leaving a widow Sarah and eight children who are accounted for (I think) He is listed in the 1790 census as being in Iredell Co. NC I believe there was a Joseph LOOPER next door to him, and listed in SC for the 1790 census. Also listed I think is a William Luper in Buncombe Co. NC 1790 and I think in VA a Jeremiah LOOPER. It is believed that the LOOPERS migrated to NC from Cumberland Co. PA, but I have not found them anywhere. The local FHC has not been a lot of help...they are 30 miles away and only open 2 hours 3 days a week. We only get to town 2xs a month! Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. I am descended from William, Daniel's firstborn son. Possible relations: William, Joseph, Jeremiah I wish I could just go there and look, but I am sure I am not alone on that one! I hope to at least narrow down the search area and cut down on the Email lists. Thank you in advance Murray Looper Professor http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/4835
I just joined these lists, because I just made a connection. I am trying to find out anything about Jacob SHENEBERGER m. Carolyn SHEARER. All I know about them is that they had at least 3 sons. Sylvanus Andrew b. April 13, 1849 in Northampton, PA, Amandus Albert b. June 22, 1853 (place unknown), & J.C., b. November 10, 1858, Allentown, Lehigh Co., PA. Sylvanus married Neomia E. MOSIER b. April 24, 1854, Crawford Co., PA. Neomia was the daughter of David Mosier & ? Matter. David MOSIER was born in Allentown, Lehigh Co., PA. I am also trying to find out anything concerning twin boys, Isaac James & James Isaac Sheneberger, born March 5, 1868, Allentown, Lehigh Co., PA. I think that they were nephews of Jacob. The 3 sons of Jacob moved to Iowa by 1890 and Isaac moved by 1900. Also, was there a Milton Elmer Sheneberger connected to any of the above people? I would be very happy to share information with anyone that has any clues or would appreciate any help in gaining more information. Thank you very much and Happy hunting, Anita
Hi, I'm new to this mailing list. I have been researching my many family lines in Westmoreland County for a number of years--Bortz, Brindle, Fennel, Kuhns, Alcorn, Weisner, Gindelsperger, Shaffer, Bauman. Of course, most of these families first lived in eastern PA (all but the Alcorns who came straight from Ireland to settle in Westmoreland). The list expands in eastern PA and Germany to include Ruth, Stambach, Dreisbach, Eberhard, Raschenberger, Sassmannshausen, Schmeyer, Weil, Wolf, Mueller, and families yet to be uncovered. I would gladly share and trade info. My present emphasis is with the Bortz family, trying to clean up mistakes and fill in empty spots. I hope to hear from some distant cousins! Candy

Peggy Sue: Just for reference - I've been researching the George Michael Bastian of Montgomery Co, Allen Twp Northampton Co, then Snyder Co, and Northumberland Co ( and some later to Lycoming Co). I've seen folks often mix up these two different lines. One point that I haven't ironed out is that supposedly the Bastian brothers of Allen Twp (Jacob and Andreas I think) were to have married Ertle sisters from Berks Co in the 1790's (Jacob Bastian is mentioned in the Ertle will). I've wondered if these weren't Lehigh Co Bastian's since it's much closer and I haven't seen the Ertle's in Allen Twp. FYI, Tim Conrad
Are there any BASTIAN/BOSTIAN researchers out there? Or FELKER/ VOLKER ?? Christopher and Ann Bastian who came from Germany, settled in Upper Milford, now Old Zionsville, near Dillingersville, PA. Dates are not given for their arrival and it is possible they came with their young daughter Anne, after their sons made the ocean voyage in successive years. Christopher, Jr. may also have come across at the same time with his parents. They had a large family. Their daughter, Ann, was born May 24, 1739. She was married at St. Michael's church, Philadelphia, to Abraham Rex (1735-1793), and they had fourteen children. Other children of Christopher Bastian were: Christopher, Jr., Andreas, Mathias, Jonas and Michael. The last four resided for some years in Upper Milford township, now Lehigh county, and their names appear in the township tax list for 1762. [Note: Jonas married Margaret Becker and is my ancestor] Mathias Bastian arrived at Philadelphia on Sept. 25, 1751, and settled in Upper Milford. His wife, Barbara, died on Oct. 5, 1751, aged 25 years, ten days after her arrival in America. Mathias Bastian married on Feb. 28, 1752, Anna Catherine, daughter of Henry William Dillinger. Among their children were Rosina, Catherine, Anna Maria, Mathias, Jacob, Susanna and Margaret. About 1771 he removed from this vicinity. Jonas Bastian arrived at Philadelphia, Sept. 27, 1752, as a single man. On Oct. 15, 1752, he married Margaret Becker. They had children, Matthias, born 1753; Philip, born 1755; Jonas, born 1756; and Christopher, born 1760, Rosena b. 1766 and Margaretha, born 1769. After 1765, his name does not appear in Upper Milford, and he had probably removed from the locality. Andrew Bastian also resided in Milford township until about 1766, when he also removed from the vicinity. He and his wife Magdalena, had children, Catharine, born 1759; Philip, born 1760, and David, born 1761. These four brothers were members of the Lutheran congregation that existed near Dillingersville, and contributed to it support from 1755 to 1765. [Does anyone know Magdalena's maiden name?] Michael Bastian, the ancestor of the present Lehigh county family, arrived at Philadelphia on Oct. 13, 1749, on the ship, Lydia; which sailed from Rotterdam, Holland. He settled shortly afterward in Upper Milford township. His name, and that of his wife, Magdalena, appears in the records of the old Lutheran congregation near Dillingersville, as among the communicants on May 21, 1750. Michael and Magdalena Bastian had the following children: Elizabeth, born Aug. 11, 1750; Michael, born Feb. 17, 1752; Casper, born Oct. 12, 1753; Christopher, born Oct. 4, 1758; Magdalena, born June 4, 1760; and Anna Eva, born Oct. 8, 1762. [Does anyone know the maiden name of Michael's wife Magdalena ?] Roberts, Charles Rhodes, "History of Lehigh County, Pennsylvania", Lehigh Valley Publishing Co., Ltd., Allentown, PA, 1914, Vol.1, p. 772. Any information on these PA families would be appreciated. Thanks! Peggy Sue peggysue411@juno.com HomePage http://members.aol.com/PWilson411/indexe.html

Hi. My gr-gr-grandparents were married in Lehigh Co, PA 26 August 1835. After that they moved a lot. To be married in Lehigh, surely that is where they lived. Does anyone have any information on: Solomon RICKARD, b. ca1803, m. above, d. 4 March 1862 in Mahoning or Stark Co, Ohio. (Reference didn't name "where" and they lived near the county line.) I know nothing at all about his family. Elizabeth SEIGEL, b. ca 1818, m. above, d. 8 February 1900 in Lenawee Co, MI. She was the dau. of Hannah WINSLOW and Peter SEIGEL. Hannah WINSLOW SEIGEL was b. ca 1792, d. 12 Feb 1871. Hannah is buried in Alliance, Stark Co, OH. Peter SEIGEL was already deceased at that point. Solomon and Elizabeth had 14 children. I have names for 10 and know that an 11th was a dau. Of the other 3, I don't have a clue. Children were born in Crawford, Clarion, and Berks Co, PA and Mahoning Co, OH. Anyone have info on a RICKARD (any spelling) or SEIGEL family in Lehigh Co?? Thank you. Phyllis Rickard Adrian, MI prickard@monroe.lib.mi.us
Does anyone have a book or listing of births/baptisms/marriages/deaths etc. from the St. Paul's Lutheran and Reformed Church (St. Pauls Blue Church) in Upper Saucon Twp.? I am researching the Rumfield/Rumfeld family in PA and understand that there were family members in this church. Is information from this church published somewhere. I would be happy to buy a book if it exists. I am in Minnesota and can't just run over there, so I would appreciate any information I can get. Thanks, Dick Sommer Stillwater, MN <rosommer@primenet.com>
I am looking for information on the descendants of John (Johannes S.) RUMFIELD/RUMFELD. Here is what I have: John Rumfield b. 2/9/1784 m. Catharine Mohry b. 2/6/1785 d. 2/14/1871 Catharine is buried at Friedensville Church, Upper Saucon. Her Father was Peter Mohry 1757-1828. Mother Catharina Schlosser 1758-1837. I have two children for John and Catharine: Esther Rumfield b ? d ? Jonathan Rumfield b 5/28/1807 d. 11/2/1863 I am looking for other children of John and Catharine. The 1850 census apparently shows Catharine (widow) living with Israel Rumfield and his wife Matilda. Israel may be a son? I am trying to connect my gg-grandfather to his parents. His name was Peleg M. Rumfield b 1818 PA d. 1862 Meigs Co., OH. I understand it is an old PA Dutch tradition to name the first born son after the father's father. I believe Peleg's son John was his 1st son. Which, following this logic, would make his father's name John, as well. If anyone can help me with this line (or this line of thinking) I would appreciate it. I have gathered a bit of knowledge on the Rumfield/Rumfeld family if any one is interested. Thanks, Dick Sommer <rosommer@primenet.com> Stillwater, MN
