Does anyone have any knowledge of Charles FLIEHR, a coverlet weaver in the mid 1800's in Lehigh County, probably around 1860? He signed his pieces with his "FLIEHR, year & Lehigh County", I have read in the book about American Coverlet Weavers. Can anyone tell me how to find out if any of his coverlets still exist? I live in Washington state. Would love to find out if there are any antique dealers, perhaps, that might know more about these coverlets. He later became an Evangelical minister, I read. He married Catherine HERMAN. Thanks, Kathy
I have a web site for the three brothers, Casper Peter, Rudolph Peter and Hans Jacob Peter, who settled in Lehigh County, PA. If you have anything to add or any corrections, please let me know. If you are related to this family and/or would like your web page linked to it, please let me know. http://www.feist.com/~lccook/petersindex.html Thanks, Sheri
Despite what the DAR Patriot Index says... PA Archives, Series Six, Vol II printed 1906 p. 673 "The Return of Capt. Comfort Company for the Yere (that's the spelling) 1782 County of York" lists Henry CONN (there's also a John CONN) ===== There is no KAHN/KANN listed in this source on this page. Even though everyone misspelled back then, I'm trying to find out for sure if the Henry Conn who married Johanna Burt fought in the American Revolution. I really don't care if the answer is YES or NO. I just want to know for sure. The Nicholas KANN line claims the Henry CONN listed under Capt. Comfort as their Johann Heinrich Kann, son of Nicholas Kann. How do we know? I'd appreciate some discussion about this. Perhaps locating the below CONNS in PA would help. Please be patient, list members, with my obsession on this line. It's just a surprise that no one on the list has seen or heard from them with so many of them staying in PA. Thanks for all of the help and encouragement. I am trying to find out the name of the ship that William and Mary Susanna TONKIN and her brother George GEAKE sailed on in 1883. They came from Cornwall, probably into the port of Philadelphia and settled in the Bangor/Pen Argyl area. Thanks, Wanda Williams Seaford, Va.
Hello List, A friend of mine and myself have been discussing an Allentown radio personality. Maybe someone can help us. The person was Johnny Van Sandt. He broadcast for Station WSAN. This was in the 1940s. Can anyone tell us what has happened to Johnny VanSandt? We surely would appeciate any information. TIA Anna in AZ.
Questions: 1. Is the Henry Conn who married Johanna Burt the same as the Henry C-O-N-N who served in the American Revolution according to PA Archives 6th Series, Vol. II p. 485, as a member of Capt. Jacob Comfort's Co. 3rd Battalion in York Co. in 1782? 2. Is Johanna Burt the mother of Henry's children? Is BURT her maiden name or was she married before Henry? 3. Is Henry CONN related to the Nicholas KANN of York Co.? 4. Looking for information on Henry's children born in PA (see below) ========== The story goes...Henry Conn came to America with his father, mother and brother prior to 1780. Family legend says two Henry Conns fought in American Rev. were father and son. For York Co., Henry & Johanna moved to Buck's Co. and reared a family of seven children, at least six of which were traced as having matured and married while living in PA. Five of Henry's children and their families, exhibited an overpowering urge to improve their lot (a Conn characteristic) and emigrated to Indiana to wrest from the wilds of mother nature and the Indians, a homestead and a rich new life...They did not leave together as a group, but individually, arriving in Indiana between the years of 1833 and 1857. I received such few responses; I figured I would give it another try. In the History of Berks county I read of a mine explosion on June 21, 1879 in Emaus, Pa. Since this involved my husbands g-grandfather and I would like more information about this disaster. I have looked in the library and have not found anything. Do you have some advice on finding such a thing? Was this a coal mine or some other? Is there a book or e-mail address of such disasters? Thank you for what ever help you can give me? Lillian
