Dear Earl, There's still hope. The now-defunct Bethlehem plant will become the National Museum of Industrial History, under the direction(?) of the Smithsonian (they are loaning industrial artifacts). When this museum is up and running, they will certainly have to maintain Bethlehem Plant records of the Bethlehem Steel Corp. in order to interpret all of their "stuff," right? Bethlehem Steel has a website (http://www.bethsteel.com), but they do not have much information about employees or history. The only history they give is general company history (see http://www.bethsteel.com/history.html). I have been looking for other Beth Steel resources, but nothing yet. Since Bethlehem Steel's main plant is (was) actually in Northampton County, you might want to try that county's mailing list (PANORTHA-L@rootsweb.com). looking for records for the LERCH and VANLUVANEE familys . also the NEEDHAM family. thank you, june lerch
If someone is interested.. I was in contact with a woman who published a listing of Post Offices in 1831. Of course Oregon is not listed back then, mainly more states to the East. I think it is very interesting to find out what post offices were around back then. If anyone would like a copy of this book, she is selling it for $15.00 plus postage of $ 3.20 = $ 18.20. If you are interested please email her: PR102@AOL.COM and she will give you her address and can answer any questions you may have. She also told me she is publishing one for the 1850's also. Thanks. Trying to connect to: Johann Heinrich BITZ and Elizabeth WEBER. Believe their son may be Wilhelm BITZ b. 1770-1780, d. 1848 Armstrong County, married Anna Maria SILVIUS (we have her lineage). Also a long-suffering VARNER researcher. Trying to connect to: John WERNER and Catharine of Plainfield Twp., parents of the following: 1791, 13 Nov, Jacob Werner 1793, 17 Sep, Sarah Werner 1798, 21 Dec, John Werner (believe this John is our ancestor and father of the Minnesota Varners) Member of the VARNER-L and SILVIUS-L, among other lists. Denise: I have just subscribed to this list as a part of a start toward finding out more on my gt gt Grandmother Eliza Snyder (born ~ 1830), who came from Catassaugua, PA. from "Penn. Dutch" folks. She married Benjamin Franklin Custer in 1851 and then lived in Altoona until her death in 1909. I have a source that gives her parents as Jonathan and Mary Snyder. She would have been a contemporary of your Esther Snyder. She had a cousin, Elizabeth, who lived on a farm in the "Dry Lands" about 12 miles above Catasauqua. Could these be any relation? I have a Charles "Carl" Snyder, b Jan 3 1826, in Lehigh Co, PA, son of Jacob Schneider and Maria Elisabeth Kistler. I show his wife as Emaline; last name unknown. Nothing on their children. Jacob and Elisabeth had another son Charles, their first child, born 1813, but died young. So they renamed their sixth child Charles again, as was common in those days. Jacob's father was Jacob Sr; his mother was Anna Maria somebody. Elisabeth's parents were Samuel J. Kistler, Sr (1754-1822); her mother was Maria Catharina Barbara Brobst (1767-1845), daughter of Matthias George Probst (1736-1792). So you can see why I have than Snyder info in the Brobst Registry -- it's the Brobst connection. You can see it all on the Registry website's data base at: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/brobst/ The data base was last updated late in 1998, and will be updated again probably in early April. Emaline shows in the update. Can you verify that it's the same Charles Snyder? If so, I'll enter the data you put in your query. If I can help in any other way, just let me know. Bill -- William A.
