Saw a handy web site for Luzerne county which listed LDS reel numbers for birth, death, marriage, etc. Does anyone know if such a site exists for Lehigh County. Thanks, Fred

When I read my own incoming message about cemeteries, I thought I would check the Northampton Co. PAGenWeb via the link at the bottom for cemeteries. Well, we are richer in resources than I thought. Tiana ALREADY has a great page of Northampton (and Lehigh) County cemeteries by township or borough at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/6508/ Thanks, Tiana! Hi, You great great grandfather is listed in the roster, first for the 1st Pa Volunteers, which had a very short enlistment period. Charles Miller http://home.ptd.net/~nikki/1regtlc.htm Then he is listed again in the 47th reg Co. B as a veteran. Sgt Charles E. Miller; Sgt 1/1/1865; 1/9/1862; vet http://home.ptd.net/~nikki/47regtlcbfg.htm You may want to contact the site owner to see if she knows anymore. She is very knowledgable and helpful. Dear folks: Here is a brickwall I'm hoping someone can help me tear down. My great great grandfather, Charles Elmer Miller died in Luzerne County in 1924. His obit says he was born in "Rockpost, Lehigh County" in 1845. No one seems to have ever heard of Rockpost. I have gotten responses to this question which I previously posted and all of them suggested that Rock Port, Lehigh Twp., Carbon County may be the place. But extensive census research turned up nothing. According to his wife's obit, Charles E. Miller was married in Lock Port, Northampton County, just across the river from Lehigh County. Also, I believe he enlisted in the 47th Regt. Pa. Vols., a regiment which was recurited (in part)in Allentown. This would seem to show that perhaps he lived in an area north of Allentown, perhaps, North Whitehall Twp., which is in Lehigh County just across the river from Lockport, Northampton County. Charles was Lutheran. Does the name "Rockpost" ring a bell with anyone? Perhaps the place was not a town but a landmark. I am trying to locate his whereabouts before he moved to Luzerne County. I would appreciate any information. Thanks, Fred

Hi Everyone, If you have never checked out this collection, it is worth a look. I clicked on search and typed in Lehigh Co. and got a lot of links to pictures and films and manuscripts - all viewable ONLINE! I could spend days here! It is part of the Library of Congress on-line collections. http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/amhome.html Have fun! Donna

My dilemma: I am supposed to be descended from a Jacob STECKEL (STEGEL, STOECKEL). But I'm not sure how to find out which one he might be. There is a Jacob STECKEL, 1753-1836, who is the son of the emigrant, Johan Peter STECKEL (AKA.-Peter STEGEL, STOECKEL). There is a Jacob STECKEL mentioned in a book called "The Real America in Romance Before and During Revolution". It claims that Jacob STECKEL was from Anhalt, Germany and had a brother named August STECKEL still in Germany. August was forced into service with the British to fight in America against his brother, Jacob. Jacob was said to be in Lexington, Massachusetts in 1775. He supposedly dumped tea overboard the ship Dartmoth November 28, 1773 with his friends, Simon TAPLEY and Albert STEVEN. Could these two Jacob STECKELs be the same person? Where might I find the information I'm looking for? I sure need some help with this one. Thanks to anyone with information! Lauri Steckel-Robinson

Hi! Some of my ancesters also attended this church before moving up to Lehigh County. Probably the best source would be Pennsylvania Births in Philadelphia by Humphries. There was a wonderful person on the Rootsweb BooksWe Own list that looked up my surnames for me. She was thorough and prompt and would probably shoot me for this. Look for Books We Own at Rootsweb.com. Best Wishes! Melinda Wagner Esteban
