John Matter, the great-grandfather, of German parentage, located in Lykens Valley at an early day. He had 6 sons, of whom, George married a Miss Rumberger, and their son Michael, born in the valley, married Sarah, d/o Fredrick Crum. Michael Matter died Jan 11, 1880, and his wife, June 10, 1876.
