Conestoga is the name of the great wagons that were invented by the Germans during the mid 1700's. They were very large wagons used to haul freight back and forth from Lancaster to Philadelphia as well as other points. They had a high center of gravity so that it was difficult to get them stuck in the mud. The word Conestoga came from the Conestoga Indian tribes of the Conestoga Valley area from what I have read. I don't know if this is accurate or not.
