    3. York County History Adam R. Witmayer, of Fairview township, York County. He was born Nov 9, 1835 in W. Manchester township, son of John, grandson of John, who died before the birth of Adam R, and little is known of him save that he was a farmer of W. Manchester township and had the following; Jacob, Simeom, Daniel, John, Mrs. Stouch, and Mrs. Evans. John Witmayer, the father was born July 20, 1803 in W. Manchester. He died in York, April 5, 1876 and he is buried at Prospect Hill. He married Barbara Ruppert, born Oct 7, 1804, and died Aug 9, 1894. Members of the Lutheran Church in York. Children; Annie, died in Baltimore, Eliza, born 1827, died in Dover, the wife of William Sweitzer. Elizabeth, married Jacob Kling. Israel, born 1830, died in Lancaster County, served 17th Ohio Battery. Caroline, born 1832, married David Hoke, and they lived in Baltimore, John, born 1833, lived in Columbia, Lancaster County, Adam R., Frederick, born 1837, member of the 87th P.V.I., Jacob, born 1839, lived in York, Barbara, born 1840, died young, Daniel, born 1842, Civil war vet, Edward, born 1841, Samuel born 1842, he was burned to death in an accident, William H., born 1847, and Emanuel, who died young. Adam R. Witmeyer, Co. A. 94th Ohio, V.I. At Bentonville, NC he was wounded in the left shoulder, after which he was sent to NY and then to Dennison hospital, where he mustered out. After the way, he settled in Springfield, Ohio, and thence again located in Lancaster county, PA., in 1866, during which year he married Annie Brennemann, d/o Henry and Mary (Miller). After his marriage he went to ID, where he remained for 1 year, again he returned to Lancaster, PA. Children; John, born 1867, married Margaret Dielh; Wiliam G., born March, 1869, married Annie "Melcheor" , and they lived at Harrisburg; Harry F., born 1871, marrried Caroline Hess, they lived in York; and Mary Ann Barbara born 1877, married Harry Bixler. Mrs. Witmyer's great-grandfather, John Miller, was a native of Germany, he settled in Strasburg, and he was killed by Indian. His son John Miller, died 1874 age 98 and his wife Betsey (Cramer) Miller, died 1876, age 97. He and his wife were members of the Mennonite Church, Children; John born 1805, Joseph, died in Manheim, Sallie, married Ulrich Strickler, and died in Salunga, Mary, Mrs. Witmyer's mother born April 16, 1817, married Sept 28, 1858 to Henry Wittmer, who was born 1819, (Mrs Wittmer is now living (1907) with her daughter, Mrs Witmyer at New Market); Hattie married Joseph Sowder, Jacob, Elizabeth, born 1825, married Daniel S. Grove. Witmer, David S., (subject) was born June 29, 1845, in what was then Spring Garden, now Springetsbury Township. The Witmer family is from Swiss ancestory, who settled in Lancaster Co. David Witmer, grandfather of David S., moved to York when a young man. He was a Mennonite preacher/ he died in 1843 aged 70y 11m 18d. His wife, Magdalena (Kauffman) whom he married in Lancaster Co, survived him until 1857. Children; John who married ___ Lefever, Catharine, married David Forry, Lydia, married David Spenkle, Annie, who married Samuel Roth, David, married Nancy Kauffman, Elias, Susan, who married Christian Hursh. Elias Witmer, was born on the old homestead, Feb 14, 1814. He remained on the Witmer homestead until 1858 and then bought the place where his son now lives. This farm was originally owned by George Holtziner, from whom it was passed to Harry Strickler, Zachariah Kendig, and to Mr. Witmer. Strickler, Edward M. (subject) his grandfather was Benjamin Stricker, Benjamin Strickler, father of Edward M was born in Hellem township, Dec 1821. He married Eleanora Bahm, d/o David and Rachel (Witman) Bahn, who was born in 1831 A, David Witmayer, was born Aug 14, 1799, the s/o David and Margaret Witmayer. A, David Wittman was born Nov 28, 1809, s/o Jacob and Elizabeth. Both at New Hanover Wittmayer, Maria Margaret, born 16 Sept 1762, d/o Leonhard and Catharine. White Oak Lutheran and Reformed Church, Penn township Wittmeyer, Anna Maria, born 14 Dec 1755, d/o Simon, wife no mentioned. Emanuel Lutheran Church records, Elizabeth township. Weidman John Jacob, s/o Martin, 12 March 1736 Johan Martin, 12 April 1770, s.o Jacob John Jacob s/o Martin, born 12 March 1736, all at Emanuel Lutheran, Elizabeth township Lancaster County History Witmeyer, Henry, H. (subject). David Witmeyer great-grandfather, was an emigrant to America from Germany. He founded the family in Lancaster Co. His son, David was born in the western of the county, Jan 31, 1800.
