    1. [PALEBANO] Re: [PALEBANO-L] Two Jacob GEBHARTs missing
    2. All I have on Schugar so far is a Catherine who married a Frederick Kraffert 31 March 1795 at Trinity Tulepohocken Reformed. I am trying to get my things typed in the computer and never got to Schugar. If I come across anytning when I do I will let you know. Found this in the Schuyler Brossman Column #1540 dated 24 April 1996 Our Keystone Families Eileen Gebhardt, 13712 Paraiso Road, Ocean Springs, MS 39564 wrote: Jacob Gebhart, born about 1780/90 who married Catharine Shugar (Schuchert) born 2 Dec. 1792, died 14 Oct. 1871 in Fredricksburg, Lebanon Co., Pa.; d/o John Shugar and Eliz. Schreiner. It now appears more probable that he was an immigrant, and not a son of one of the Gebhart families already in this area of Pa.; although she has not been able to find him on immigration lists. She has still not discounted the possibility that Jacob's father, or at least a relative, was a Gottlieb Gebhart who was bpt. as an adult on 11 Aug. 1814 at the Christ Evang. Luth. Ch. in Elizabethtown, Lancaster Co. where two of Jacob's children were bpt. on 14 Sept. 1832. Gottlieb and his wife, Christianna, have several of their adult children buried in the old cemetery behind the church; none of them a Jacob. She has not been able to find where he died, his wife was buried at St. John's Luth. in Fredricksburg. To the right of her headstone is an empty space that suggests Jacob was to have been buried beside her. In the 1840 Lebanon Co. census, Catherine Gebhart is living alone in Bethel Twp., and her son, John, in Swatara. The absence of Jacob's name suggest he was either deceased or living elsewhere. Family legend says he deserted his family. Children of Jacob Gebbhard and Catherine Shugar were: 1. John, born 19 Sept. 1819; perhaps married Susan. Their dau. may have been Susan Catherine christened 24 June 1836, who married John W. Bowman 27 Jan. 1857 at Christ Evang. Luth. in Elizabethtown. Living in Swatara in 1840. 2. Marie born 29 June 1820, died 26 Sept. 1845; aged 25.3 3. Jacob born 18 Nov. 1824, m/21 Dec. 1848, Emmaline Cormany (Karmony, Carmony), born 12 March 1831, died 14 July 1886. Newspaper announcement of their wedding says both from South Annville Twp., in Lebanon Co. 4. Veronica "Fanny" born 13 May 1827, christened 14 Sept. 1832 at Christ Evang. Luth, Elizabethtown, perhaps married Amos L. Herrauff 9 March 1851. 5. Martin born 18 Feb. 1830, christened 14 Sept. 1832, Christ Evang. Luth. died 23 March 1911 in Fredricksburg; m/27 March 1911 Sara Ann Klinger born 7 April 1837; died 17 Sept. 1904. Also buried in St. John's (Host) Church in Tulpehocken Twp., Berks are the following: Row 17 grave 1 Johannes Schuckard s/o Michael and w/Barbara 15 Sept. 1806-1 July 1807; row 6 grave 1 Jacob Schuckart 17 May 1773-10 May 1837; row 6 grave 2 Catherine Ebling 22 Jan. 1792-9 June 1853 w/o Jacob Schucker. This is the extent of what she wrote. Maybe something will help here. Good Luck...
