There is an old farmhouse down the road from me which will be torn down in the next 2 weeks. I've spoken with a township supervisor and the present owner of the property. It sits at an awkward county intersection which the township has wanted to "straighten out" for years. Also, due to a new home construction a few hundred yards from the site, the supervisors insisted the farmhouse be taken down to allow room for the new home's drainage field (that excuse really "gets" me!). The present owner has informed me that the inside of the farmhouse is basically "trashed" from long-time renters. There's nothing that can be done to block this demolition of the farmhouse and the 2 remaining barns. Moving it is out of the question considering the moving expense and the necessary renovations due to its deteriorated condition. The owner has given me permission to take photos of the property, inside & out. [He told me to "hold my nose" when I entered the premises!] I will be doing this probably this coming week. All I know about the property is that it is in South Annville twp and viewing the 1860 map the farmhouse and property is owned by the estate of Philip Imboden. On the 1875 map, J. Imboden is the property owner. Across this road in 1875 there was a blacksmith shop - possibly operated by the Imbodens, since they were the closest property owners. I'm sure the basic farmhouse existing today is the one depicted in the 1860 map. It's a limestone 2-story farmhouse with a balcony extending the length of the front. I will be doing more research on this property and the Imbodens who owned it. I want to compile some type of history booklet including the photos I've taken for the Hist Soc's (Lebanon County & Friends of Old Annville.) Might anyone on this list have information about this family? I'll be happy to share what I complete with anyone, especially descendants. If anyone can fill me in on this family, it would be appreciated.
