Donna etc.- If the transcription records were LDS extraction records, what your niece told you is pretty true. In my area (AZ) two separate people review the film and fill out a card for each entry. This card is then passed to a different person who reviews the same film, comparing the film and card filled out by Person #1. If there are discrepancies, the two people meet and review it together. I know this process is very painstaking, and takes a lot of time to accomplish. Furthermore, old English script and alphabet tables are used to compare handwriting etc. My own opinion is that these records are accurate, but as with anything there could be little discrepancies. Hope this answers your questions!
