"The History of Berks and Lebanon Counties," by Rupp includes: "The following is from Mr. Sarge..." "Mr. Mies [George, according to the index, 1704-1774], some years ago, informed my father that two of his brothers fell victim to gratify the destruction propensity of the Indians. The two brothers [prob. Johann Heinrich and Christopher] were ploughing and thus were surprised by the Indians. One of them was shot dead on the spot; the other, for his life, made for the house; having nearly reached his goal, and while in the act of leaping a fence, a ruthless Indian, hard on his heels, sunk his tomahawk in the head of his victim--he expired instantly!" The foregoing massacre-murders took place in the year 1761 in East end of Hanover (now Union) Township, Lancaster (now Lebanon) PA. George MIESS was a member of Bethel Moravian in Swatara Twp., but his brothers are not buried there.
