    2. Marjorie Hennessey
    3. Hello Everyone, My gr-gr-grandfather, William Rosenberger, died in the town of Lebanon on 11 Sept. 1888. In my attempt to locate an obituary for him, I wrote to the Lebanon Historical Society. Unfortunately they don't have a copy of the Lebanon Advertiser for that particular year. Would anyone on the list know where I could find a copy of this ( or another paper that would likely have obituaries listed ). Thanks for your help. Marjorie Hennessey mhenness@zoo.uvm.edu

    2. Robert Bensing
    3. Donna, All three names could very well be for the same family. The pronunciation of the ue or u umlaut was one of the things my German teacher dwelled on. Seems the English speakers normally don't move their mouths to make the umlaut sounds and the muscles have to be retrained. In some of my CDs the umlauts do not appear in the names. Some names are spelled with just the u or with ue. Add to this some English speaking person listening to a German speaking in one of many dialects. It is very easy for Bruecker to become Bricker or even Briker and Priker. 1. [PALEBANO-L] DIENA AND MILLER
    2. I am searching for DIENA OR DIANA, and MILLER or MOLNAR My mother, MARIE DIENA, was born in Millardsville PA, Lebanon county on 02/09/25 to HELEN MILLER and DOMENIC DIENA, according to her application for a social security number. She, my mother, marie, passed away in 1969,but always told us that her maiden surname was DIANA, and her mother's maiden name was MOLNAR, so I just don't know where to begin. I just ran across this web site, and am new to geneology, but I noticed that LEBANON COUNTY is mentioned alot, and am hoping that someone might tell me where I could begin tracing. Any and all suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

    3. I'll further complicate things: I have a Jacob RUDY (wife unk.) with a daughter Margaret born 17 Dec. 1753 in Lebanon Co.; her will was filed 1 Oct 1825 (Leb. Co. Book A, p. 448); she married Adam FABER. My connection is that she had a daughter Magdalene FABER on 26 Nov. 1775 and Magdalene married my ancestor, Jacob SATTEZAHN (or Satazahn, or Satteson, or whichever you like). If any of this connects with anyone, i'd be delighted to share info on my Sattesons. I'd like info on "this" Jacob RUDY's background if known. Tony Seidel in Sonora, CA

In this case I got the definite feeling that it had all been arranged in advance, since the same person was appointed for all six of them, but I have seen cases where different children chose different ones. > Also, I believe you are saying, then, that if a > child is choosing a guardian, the father being deceased, that it might be > a good time to check for a remarriage of the mother? Yes, if there is no other obvious reason for the choice of time to appoint one. It had to do with the fact that a widow had almost the same rights as a man, and she could act legally for her own children, but if she remarried she was not a widow anymore and they then needed a guardian. > (She didn't > necessarily get remarried, but is just a possibility to consider?) Yes. I know that Catherine Frank did not in fact remarry; that was not the reason in her case but I have definitely seen it in others. > I know > from my Dutch research that the Orphans Court in the Netherlands would > intervene when there was a second marriage - to make sure the children of > the first marriage were adequately taken care of. Is that the case in PA > during the 1700s and 1800s? I'm not sure it was so much to make sure they were adequately taken care of although that may have been a factor. As I said above, it had at least in part to do with the greater rights of widows than of married women. > If so, there are a lot of Orphans Court > records missing, so maybe I am answering my own question. :-) Right. A guardian was not appointed for the children every time a father died leaving minor children, if he also left a competent widow. I think that in practice anyway there had to be at least one other reason. > I also have > seen a father appointed as guardian of his children after the mother died. > Does that mean that *he* is getting remarried?, so once again time to > check for that remarriage? Well frankly I have no idea what that means. *His* remarriage would not ordinarily make any difference. I would suspect there may have been some sort of family dissention in that particular case and somebody wanted to intervene and take them over or something like that. Jan

    3. Still on the trail of Martin Lang(e)/Long, I've found the baptism sponsor for two of his children to be Anthony Lang, son of Joh. Leonard Lang of Swatara Twp. I suspect that Leonard may also be Martin's father. Leonard is said to have had 8 children with wife Anna Elizabeth Ziegler. I have found three: Anna Regina, Leonard, and Anthony. If Martin fits into this family, he would be the eldest of the eight. Do any Long researchers have information on the other 5 of Leonard's children? Charlie
