    3. Hi List: If you happen to run across any COVEY folks in your genealogical travels I would certainly like to hear from you. Although there are ver few of us, we seemed to have spread like wildfire throughout the United States. Anything you can help me with will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and I look forward to finding some of those lost rascals I’ve been looking for. Just remember Ol’ Tubby Joe Stottlemeyer. He should be the mayor of Watson. 1. [PALEBANO-L] Query/Poorman
    2. Seek info on Cosmos POORMAN,born Oct. 14,1850,Palmyra, Pa .Married Emma STUCKEY. Emma was killed from a fall from a hay rake while pregnant with their third child on Nov. 8,1878 at age 24. In Jan. 1884 Cosmos left his two sons ,John Cosmos and William Stuckey with his parents, John and Leah POORMAN of Palmyra, Pa and headed West for the gold rush making stops in Kansas; California: Fulton, Missouri where he visited friends of his family (the Shifflers) and was headed for Alaska. Family lost contact with Cosmos and after the death of Cosmos's parents in April 1902 , a notice was placed in the local paper for any one with info on Cosmos Poorman to step forward .Unanswered, Cosmos was declared dead in 1903 by the Lebanon County Court to settle the estate of his parents for his two grown sons. What happened to Cosmos? When and where did he die? A search of Alaska came up empty. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!Bev

    2. I think I am related through this same Mease line. I have some notes done a long time ago that mention the Indian attack and also something about a Mease/Miess that was part of George Washington's group and his job was to keep the campfires burning when Washington crossed the Delaware so the Hessians would think he was still in camp, etc. Beverly Walmer Wyld

"The History of Berks and Lebanon Counties," by Rupp includes: "The following is from Mr. Sarge..." "Mr. Mies [George, according to the index, 1704-1774], some years ago, informed my father that two of his brothers fell victim to gratify the destruction propensity of the Indians. The two brothers [prob. Johann Heinrich and Christopher] were ploughing and thus were surprised by the Indians. One of them was shot dead on the spot; the other, for his life, made for the house; having nearly reached his goal, and while in the act of leaping a fence, a ruthless Indian, hard on his heels, sunk his tomahawk in the head of his victim--he expired instantly!" The foregoing massacre-murders took place in the year 1761 in East end of Hanover (now Union) Township, Lancaster (now Lebanon) PA. George MIESS was a member of Bethel Moravian in Swatara Twp., but his brothers are not buried there. 2. Mary
    3. Don't know if this info will help you any. I remembered entering in some Kohr names while doing the Lebanon County obits and went back and did a query. Came up with this information: Annie E. Kohr Herr b. 6/14/1901 d. 1/7/1995 sp. Charles E. Herr (d. 1981) parents: Jacob and Kathryn Bright Kohr =========== Jean E. Kohr Gingrich b. 3/28/32 d. 11/12/95 sp. William K. Gingrich parents: Norman W. and Ethel Ditzler Kohr ======== There may be more but I'm not finished entering in all the names. I'm only to the "L's" in 1995 and already have over 800 names entered. All of 1998 are scanned but not entered in yet .. they are in gif format and names still need to be entered into the database.
