    3. Hi! Susan! I saw your post a few weeks back on PALEBANO-rootsweb and didn't have the time to respond at that time. I am also interested in the Kohr line. I tried to contact you privately, however, your mail keeps coming back undeliverable. My line is through Jacob Kohr married to Rebecca Shultz. I do have info on the family back to the early 1700's. Would love to exchange info with you! I also saw a response post re: William Kohr md. to Elizabeth Young. Did this group tie in? Look forward to hearing from you! Bobby G.

    1. [PALEBANO-L] LDS 15-min Restriction Update
    2. Linnea Miller
    3. Thought this might be of interest to some of you. -Linnea Miller Listowner ============================================================ The following article is from Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter and is copyright 1999 by Richard W. Eastman. It is re-published here with the permission of the author. ============================================================ - FamilySearch.org Drops 15-Minute Restriction The LDS Church's new online family history databases proved to be almost too popular. Within days after the formal announcement of availability, the web site was swamped. At times the load was peaking at 100 million hits a day. In order to keep the load at manageable levels and to guarantee at least some access for everyone, users were given access on a 15-minute rotation cycle. Tow things have happened since then: the number of hits has gone down, and also some load balancing and system tuning has been done. Paul Nauta, a spokesman for the Church, recently said, "The access cycling to <http://www.familysearch.org> has been eliminated. Modifications have been made to enhance the service's capability and the number of hits per day seem to be stabilizing at 35 to 45 million with occasional larger spikes. Users should have no problem accessing the service at this time." Even at "only" 35 to 45 million hits per day, this is still a very popular web site. You can access the FamilySearch site at: http://www.familysearch.org. You also might want to keep an eye on the "What's New" page at: http://www.familysearch.org/whats_new.asp ============================================================

    1. Re: [PALEBANO-L] Re: Question on Church transcriptions
    2. Lisa and Donna, Continuing in the same vein...I wish everyone who transcribed old documents took as much care as the LDS. In going through my FTM CDs and numerous books I have found family under some of the most bizarre spellings. Annastatia Earlougher became Eustatia Erlocker. I have learned to come up with some creative spellings when looking folks up! Good hunting, Donna Thomas In a message dated 6/12/99 12:48:13 PM Eastern Daylight Time, lisalizard@juno.com writes: << Donna etc.- If the transcription records were LDS extraction records, what your niece told you is pretty true. I know this process is very painstaking, and takes a lot of time to accomplish. Furthermore, old English script and alphabet tables are used to compare handwriting etc. My own opinion is that these records are accurate, but as with anything there could be little discrepancies. 2. I have a question on the transcription of the Salem Lutheran church records, in this case, baptisms, of Lebanon. The LDS uses one transcription and there is another transcription used by the Lebanon County Historical Society. Does anyone know of the reliability of either of these transcriptions, as I found at one baptism, the difference in transcription makes a total difference of the sponsor present. Thanks. Regards, Donna Ristenbatt Hi Donna, I was told by an ex-niece, who is Morman, that each entry is typed by two people independent of each other. If they come up with different entries a third person is brought in. I don't know if I am accurate on this. I was told this years ago, long before I had an interest in genealogy. Best regards, Donna Thomas

    3. Donna, I found the same thing on some other stones. What looked at first like a 1 was actually a 4. It looks like the little part in the 4 would break off too easily if the entire number had the same depth of carving. At the time that he applied for his marriage application in 1901 he was living in Richland, Lebanon County. The story goes as follows: When Samuel was 6 months old his father Elias left home and no one ever heard from him or his whereabouts. Word came sometime in the 1970's that Elias had moved to California, remarried and had more children. I have recently found out that he died in 1955 in Clackamas, Oregon. He was divorced at the time of his death and his 2nd wife's name is only given as "Sina." If anyone has anything to share on this family please email me at LKaz@aol.com Thank You, Lisa
