To SMSCHLACK and any other interested researchers: The following Carmony - Cormany - Karmany graves are at Jerusalem Reformed and Lutheran Church Cemetery in Annville, Lebanon Co., according to the paper read before the Lebanon co. Historical Society 5 Nov 1935 by Prof. Thomas S. Smith of Annville. Obviously what was readable in 1935 may not even still be standing, let alone readable, but this list was posted in the Leb Co GenWeb Archives some time ago and I printed it out. CARMENE, Anna, b. 9 July 1758; d. 8 January 1842; 83y-6m-30d. CARMENE, Johan Philip, b. 3 December 1748; d. 5 March 1834; 75y-3m-2d. CARMENI, Rebeca, d. 28 September 1821; 2y-8m-22d (daughter of Georg & Christian Carmeni) CARMONY, Franklin Theodore, d. 14 September 18445m-14d (son of William & Mary Ann Carmony) CARMONY, Henrietta Barbara, d. 14 December 1844; 2y-9m-25d (daughter of William & Mary Carmony) CARMONY, Mary Ann (nee Shertzer), d. 20 June 1844; 33y3m4d (wife of William Carmony & daughter of John Shertzer CORMANY, John William, b. 17 March 1838; d. 2 August 1839; 16m-17d (son of William & Mary A. Cormany) KARMANY, John, b. 5 July 1789; d. 17 September 18868; 79y-2m-12d There are biographical notes in this paper as well, relating to Mary A. (Shertzer) Carmony. There is considerable detail about her father who was a prominent Annville citizen who according to tradition came from Manheim, Lancaster Co. (no mention of his wife - guesss he had all those 12 children by himself!), and the note concludes "Mary married William Carmony. She was the mother of Mrs. Lucy Truitt and Robert Carmony, who formerly resided in Annville. John William and Henrietta Barbara were also children of Mary's. The Carmony family came from the neighborhood of Carlisle. I think the Carlisle reference is only applicable to the William Carmony line, and does not refer to the other names above, from the Carmany/Cormany research I did a year or so ago. For what help it might be, there are also Carmany burials in Schaefferstown, and you can find them listed in Abraham Brendle's History of Schaefferstown. That line intermarried with the Philippy family, among others. Happy Hunting! Dot Clark Lansdale, PA

Many of the graves were moved to Evergreen Cemetery (behind St Mark's Lutheran Church on Cumberland alley. St. Mark's Church may be able to help you with a listing of burials. >Or any other church in Annville Another "old" Annville cemetery dating from I think the 1860's is Mt. Annville. It's north on rte 934 right across the railway tracks. Some graves from the Jerusalem Cemetery were moved here, also. This is the largest cemetery in Annville - you will have a beautiful view of town from here! I believe St. Mark's Lutheran handles this cemetery, also. They *should* have some type of listing of interments and/or plot owners. Hill Church (Quittapahila) is not far from here, also. Go east on rte 422 to the light in Cleona (where the Giant food store is). Turn left onto Mill St & up the hill. The church & cemetery will be right before the hard turn to the left (church & graveyard on the right.) Rev Caspar Stoever & his wife are interred here. There is also Grand View Memorial Park. This is a newer burial area from mid-century. On the east end of Annville (rte 422) turn north at Weber St (Napoli's Pizza) and go across the tracks and up the hill. Cemetery on the right. It is a private cemetery, but they will be very helpful at their office to locate gravesites. Those are the main cemeteries in Annville. Sure hope this helps! -Linnea

I don't know if this is 100% correct or not, but I have been told that an inmate can be over 21 years of age. I have an ancestor that appeared as an inmate in 1779, 1780, 1781, 1782, and 1783, and he had children born as early as 1772. I assume he had a wife as he had at least six children living during the time he was listed as an inmate. I believe he was probably indentured from 1774 until about the time he showed up as inmate and may have stayed with the same family working during the years he was listed as inmate. I have also been told (let me know if this is incorrect) that indentured servants were not listed on any tax records. I was also told that a freeman was a man 21 or older that was unmarried. I have been struggling with this for a long time and appreciate any and all opinions. Thank. Linnea, If you are reading this, I love you. Thanks for posting everything Annville. My aunt and I are trekking to Annville on Tuesday. Can anyone help us zero in? We are interested in any GEBHARDs (think Soundex) or CARMONYs buried at: The Methodist, formerly United Brethren(?) church, Annville Christ Reformed Church, Annville Or any other church in Annville You don't know how much this helps me! While looking through tax lists from 1816 in Lebanon Co, some of the men are classified as inmates. What does that signify? Helen
Hi, I am new to the list and had several questions...... I am researching my 4th great-grandfather, John Balsley/Balsle/Baltzle/Balzli, born ca. 1750, who supposedly was born in Holland, ( family from Canton Berne, Switzerland) brought over as a child, and is found in Shaefferstown in his early life. Information of a record was passed on to me by a fellow researcher with information below: " In 1765, our John "Baltzle" signed Declaration of Faith as member of German Reformed Church of Schaefferstown (Heidelsburg) Township, which was then in Lancaster County, later Dauphin Co., now Lebanon County Pennsylvania. According to church practice of this denomination, John would have been about 15 years. old. " Can anyone shed additional information on this church or this practice? Was this practice usually preformed at this age? Another question: Was it Schaefferstown and then Heidelburg? Would appreciate any reply on these two questions. John is found in 1771 Tax records of Lancaster County, in Heidelberg listed as " freeman" with Martin Walborn. By 1774 there are records of children's birth's of John Balsle and wife Margaretha recorded in Humphrey's book, in several churches in that area. John bought three lots in Heidelburg from Alexander Shaffer and his wife Anna Catrina in 1776. He bought several tracts of land in Paxton Twp. Dauphin county in 1793 from Lawrence Bennetch. He relocated to Harrisburg along with his two oldest sons, Jonathan and Jacob as sold various parcels of land bought from Bennetch, with last record in 1804. It is believed he relocated to Pittsburgh with other children but no probate records have been found so far. Karen Klaene <benklaene@compuserve.com> Cincinnati
I have recently pushed my GERHART line of Lebanon Boro/City back to Conrad and Catherine (Unknown) GERHART. As my 3g gf, George GERHART (1795-1878) (spouse Sarah HESS) was Conrad's eldest child, Conrad was probably b. ca 1770. I've found a good candidate in Conrad GERHART, son of Conrad and Anna Maria GERHART, bp. 1771 at Swatara Reformed (listed in one source as in Jonestown, and in another as being in Bethel.) Also listed were two siblings of this Conrad, apparently twins: Anna Regina and Anna Elizabeth, b. 1777. I would like to hear from anyone having information which might confirm or contradict this possibility. I am also interested in hearing from any descendants of Conrad and Catherine. They had at least 8 children, all or most of whom lived in Lebanon City. Thanks for any help, Charlie Parks Alexandria, VA
All I have on Schugar so far is a Catherine who married a Frederick Kraffert 31 March 1795 at Trinity Tulepohocken Reformed. I am trying to get my things typed in the computer and never got to Schugar. If I come across anytning when I do I will let you know. Found this in the Schuyler Brossman Column #1540 dated 24 April 1996 Our Keystone Families Eileen Gebhardt, 13712 Paraiso Road, Ocean Springs, MS 39564 wrote: Jacob Gebhart, born about 1780/90 who married Catharine Shugar (Schuchert) born 2 Dec. 1792, died 14 Oct. 1871 in Fredricksburg, Lebanon Co., Pa.; d/o John Shugar and Eliz. Schreiner. It now appears more probable that he was an immigrant, and not a son of one of the Gebhart families already in this area of Pa.; although she has not been able to find him on immigration lists. She has still not discounted the possibility that Jacob's father, or at least a relative, was a Gottlieb Gebhart who was bpt. as an adult on 11 Aug. 1814 at the Christ Evang. Luth. Ch. in Elizabethtown, Lancaster Co. where two of Jacob's children were bpt. on 14 Sept. 1832. Gottlieb and his wife, Christianna, have several of their adult children buried in the old cemetery behind the church; none of them a Jacob. She has not been able to find where he died, his wife was buried at St. John's Luth. in Fredricksburg. To the right of her headstone is an empty space that suggests Jacob was to have been buried beside her. In the 1840 Lebanon Co. census, Catherine Gebhart is living alone in Bethel Twp., and her son, John, in Swatara. The absence of Jacob's name suggest he was either deceased or living elsewhere. Family legend says he deserted his family. Children of Jacob Gebbhard and Catherine Shugar were: 1. John, born 19 Sept. 1819; perhaps married Susan. Their dau. may have been Susan Catherine christened 24 June 1836, who married John W. Bowman 27 Jan. 1857 at Christ Evang. Luth. in Elizabethtown. Living in Swatara in 1840. 2. Marie born 29 June 1820, died 26 Sept. 1845; aged 25.3 3. Jacob born 18 Nov. 1824, m/21 Dec. 1848, Emmaline Cormany (Karmony, Carmony), born 12 March 1831, died 14 July 1886. Newspaper announcement of their wedding says both from South Annville Twp., in Lebanon Co. 4. Veronica "Fanny" born 13 May 1827, christened 14 Sept. 1832 at Christ Evang. Luth, Elizabethtown, perhaps married Amos L. Herrauff 9 March 1851. 5. Martin born 18 Feb. 1830, christened 14 Sept. 1832, Christ Evang. Luth. died 23 March 1911 in Fredricksburg; m/27 March 1911 Sara Ann Klinger born 7 April 1837; died 17 Sept. 1904. Also buried in St. John's (Host) Church in Tulpehocken Twp., Berks are the following: Row 17 grave 1 Johannes Schuckard s/o Michael and w/Barbara 15 Sept. 1806-1 July 1807; row 6 grave 1 Jacob Schuckart 17 May 1773-10 May 1837; row 6 grave 2 Catherine Ebling 22 Jan. 1792-9 June 1853 w/o Jacob Schucker. This is the extent of what she wrote. Maybe something will help here. Good Luck...

A fellow Kline researcher previously contacted me relative to Samuel Kline, a plasterer in Lewistown, Mifflin County, PA per 1860 census. At that time I had no information relative to him. However, since then I have accumulated a lot of info relative to other Kline lines (in my effort to narrow the field within the Berks County Klines) - including this Samuel Kline. http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/k/l/i/Roy-K-Kline-Jr/
