I've been watching all the Gerhart posts recently and thought I should add some of these corrections to what I've seen. The earliest Gerhardt in Berks Co. was Frederick Gerhardt & wife Barbara Reiger (his 2nd wife) they had children Conrad, Anna Elizabeth, Frederick, Johannes, Anna Maria, Jacob, Anton, Anna Rosina, and Catherine. They arrived in Aug. 27, 1739 and lived in North Heidelberg township, berks county. Their son Frederick married Sussanna Dundor one of their sons was Johannes who married Eva Christina Ditzler they were the parents of Wenell, John, John George, William, and Susanna who married John Walmer. Their son John George Gerhart who was born in Bethel twp. in 1811 married 1st Margaret Peiffer and 2nd Eva Harnish. He had 3 children by the 1st marriage and 15 by the 2nd marriage. I have lots more on these families but wanted to fix some of the miss information that had been listed earlier.. Sandy
In reading through an old newspaper on microfilm for 1885 I ran across an interesting little article. I wonder if anyone knows if previous to this date the names of the parents were not required in Pennsylvania? Also does anyone know when parents names were first entered on the PA death records? "Below is a full list of the questions which will have to be answered by those making application for a marriage license under the law passed by the last legislature, and which goes into effect on Oct. 1 [1885]: Parent's names of both man and woman; consent of parents or guardian; date of death of their former spouses, if any, ; date of divorce if any; and the relationship of the parties, either by blood or marriage, was another thing that supposedly had to be answered. ---Richard

Linnea, Great to hear from you! I have information about the McNair line, but none of it is verified. That is another reason that we want to visit Lebanon. My husband's great great grandmother was Sarah McNair. She was married to Charles Contris in Salem Evangelical Church in Lebanon in 1850. Supposedly Sarah was the daughter of Samuel McNair and Anna Groff. I really want to get the McNair line down with some solid information while I am there. I am hoping to find some kind of birth information on Sarah somewhere, but don't know where. Thanks again for all the help. If you come up with anything on Sarah, please let me know, and I will do the same. Cathy, Your best bet is the Lebanon County Historical Society. Visit their site for days & hours: <http://www.lebanonhistory.org> Their volunteers are extremely helpful. A few blocks away, on South 8th St., is the County Courthouse. They are open weekdays from 8:30 - 4:30, except holidays. The Historical Society can direct you to most other places you may want to visit (i.e. churches, cemeteries, etc.) I'm also curious about your McNAIR. My great-great grandmother was Almira McNAIR, daughter of Samuel (b 1819, Scotland) & Dorothy (b 1822, Scotland.) Almira was born 1849 in New Jersey & died in 1915, no doubt in the Middletown NY area. Her brothers were William b 1851 New Jersey & Robert b 1853 NJ. -Linnea At 2:51 PM -0400 4/25/03, Cathy wrote: >I am researching my husband's family.
