My first post to this list. Interested in in the Fisher, McDowell, Gibson, Brown and McCrearys of Hickory and Neshannock Townships, Lawrence Co., PA. According to several histories of Lawrence Co., my Fisher ancestors settled in Lawrence (then Mercer Co.) ca. 1800. The family built many of the first saw, grist and carding mills around Eastbrook from 1806-1817, the town itself perhaps founded by, certainly built on land once owned by the Fishers. The family opened the first general store in Eastbrook in 1835. John Fisher served as its first postmaster. Various branches of the family married Gibsons, Browns and McCrearys among others. Further info can be found at my web site at http://www.ntsource.com/~autx. Very interested to learn if any documents, maps or photos exist in Eastbrook or elsewhere describing the early years of the town other than the standard records available from the Lawrence County courthouse such as deeds, wills, marriage, birth and death certificates, and etc.; items perhaps archived by a town clerk or historian. Am particularly interested in any items that mention the Fisher family. Finally does anyone know when the first newspaper in the Eastbrook was published, if newspaper records from the 1800's still exist, and whom to contact regarding these records. Thanks Much, Stephen Fisher
