I am seeking descendants of Benjamin Houk (1793-1877) m. Nancy Hazen ca 1815 to find more about the family of their daughter Sarah Margaret b. 1844 m .David Fry. The subject of my search is my great grandmother, Lucinda, who was raised by Benjamin and used the Houk surname before she married Winter Trigg, also from Lawrence County. She appears in the 1870 Census as living with Benjamin and Nancy with their children Eliza 22, Albert 18, and William W. 15. She is listed as Lucinda Barnhart, age 8. Benjamin in his Will mentioned the three children of his daughter, Sarah, who married David Fry. Then he mentions "Lucinda Houk- daughter of Sarah who I have raised." This leads one to assume she may have been born out of wedlock. We KNOW Lucinda had a " sister", Nancy, who married a McCurdy from New Castle . Nancy was born in 1869 and was one of the three children listed in the 1870 Census with sisters Mary and Francis born of Sarah Houk and David Fry. Any help on this puzzle would be greatly appreciated. My direct E-mail jkinder@naxs.net. Thanks

We are looking on any records of Alvin? Alvan? Alvah? E. Sample or Semple who was born in PA 1840 and raised in New Castle, PA. We have no idea who his parents or siblings were, but the name Elon Sample has been passed on generation after generation/ if this helps. Alvin married in Brockford or Brockport, NY, then they farmed in Illinois and headed West in 1870's to Kansas where they homesteaded a farm in Lyons, Kansas where Elon A Sample and his other children were raised and continued on the farm and all buried in a Cemetary in Lyons, Kansas. We have the family names after Alvin married, but none of his immediate family. We feel he was born in or near New Castle. Thanks, Richard Charles Sample Richard Charles Sample
Hi List, Can someone please give me some guidance on what to do. I have the obit for my GGG Grandmother Whilelmina Smith who died in 1890 in New Castle, Pa and it said she was buried at Greenwood Cemetery. Ok I call Greenwood and the caretaker said that no she wasn't buried there but her husband was his name was Christian Smith who died 1877 but was transfer to Oakpark cemetery. Which this made alot of sense to me because the rest of my family is buried at Oak Park. But when I wrote to Oak Park and asked them to do a look-up to make sure they were there I get a letter back from them telling me that they is no record of either one of them buried there. Ok my question is what do I do now????????

Please explain why I receive look-up inquiries. I live in Florida and have no access to Western Pa records other that available to others on the internet. I received several in the last few days from persons thinking I'll be able to assist them. I'm sorry they are being misled. The messages are addressed to you but they appear in my e-mail. I am researching my Lawrence Co. LOCKHART roots (and the Munnell, Parker, Parshall, Potts connections to that family). Would like to find out if my ggggrandfather John Lockhart was the John who was the son of Robert LOCKHART and Elizabeth ANDERSON who came to western PA. ca. 1808. Am seeking any info. on John. I am a descendent of his son, William E. Lockhart who served in Company F. of the Roundhead Regiment and married Margret [Margaret] PARKER of East Brook in 1869. I would also like to know if the Rachel LOCKHART buried at Rich Hill Church Cemetary is a sister of my John LOCKHART. Also: who is the Mella Lockhart buried at Rich Hill? Is she the same as the Mella J. Lockhart who was in Youngstown Ohio for Christmas day 1869? Any clues to the connection between the Lawrence Co. Lockharts and the Youngstown Ohio Lockharts? Any information or suggestions gratefully accepted.
