Hank Jones, on p.222 of "The Palitine Families of New York" refers to Oberstein in the duchy of Nastau-Sig. In the same paragraph he refers to Idar-Oberstein (14 km. s.w. of Kirn). He refers also throughout the book to Mossbach, Mosbach, Mussbach and taken in the context I assume it is in the vicinity of Neuwied - Westerwald area. Anyone interested in the Palatines should get access to Jones' books either at a local library or through purchase. They are a treasure chest of information on the Palatines and their origins. I hope this helps. Jim Groat jgroat1@midsouth.rr.com ------- Bill Hughes wrote: > > I now know that there is no surname of LNU, that it is an abbreviation for > Last Name Unknown.
