Is anyone researching the Peter/Peters surname? I am interested in those that immigrated from Igglebach, Germany to Philadelphia. Most specifically, I am seeking confirmation of birthdates for Jacob and John Peter, who were born between 1788 and 1793, sons of Jacob and Sarah (Weiss) Peter, who married May 29, 1788. Philadelphia City Archives do not have records < 1860. Jacob Sr was born 1758 in Philadelphia, where he worked as a biscuit baker; he and Sarah both died in October, 1793 in Philadelphia, leaving their two sons in the guardianship of Jacob Sr's sister and brother-in-law, Jacob and Elizabeth (Peter) Lawersweiler. Jacob Sr's father was John Benedict Peter, b. Jan 1 1730 in Igglebach, Palatinate, Germany, m. 1753 to Elizabeth (-?-); he died October 1793 in Philadelphia. They had 10 children, all born and most living their entire lives in Philadelphia: John Benedict Jr (m. Elizabeth Cornman), Jacob, Joseph, Sybilla (m. Wilson), Mary (m. Lewis Matthey), Ann (Hannah), (m. John Maybin, as merchant), Elizabeth (m. Jacob Lawersweiler), George (m. Mary Bartow), John (died < age 2) and Elizabeth (died at 1 year).
