    3. Good communication skills are important in this and many other fields of endeavor. An ability to write in a clear, concise manner is clearly an asset in genealogical research. People from various localities, countries, etc. may not understand certain phrases -- and may even speak a variety of languages. "Cute" abbreviations do nothing to aid the communication process, and we would collectively do ourselves a favor by avoiding their use. Now for someone who is new to Palatine research -- can someone give a good working definition as to the countries of origin which I assume include the general areas of Bavaria and Germany. For years, I thought that I had a bunch of relatives named Unk and then Finally figured out it mean unknown. Duh! I never saw the LNU before now I'll know to look for it. Thanks Paulette

    3. If you want a good in depth look at the Palatine immigrants in general and how they wound up here try Jennifer Nordyke's extremely well researched and documented Spickerman family website at: http://home.kscable.com/jensfamilytree/project/bibliography.html I have a fairly well documented overview (though not nearly as scholarly nor thorough as Ms. Nordyke's) of the Palatine immigration on my Groat Family page at: http://home.midsouth.rr.com/groatline/Immigraton.htm Also check out Palatines to America Web Site at: http://www.genealogy.org/~palam/ and most important the home page of noted Palatine scholar Hank Jones' at: http://www.genealogy.org/~palam/ Hope this helps.
