    3.      You need to keep in mind that in 1776 Lancaster County also included what are now Dauphin and Lebanon County.  Since Dauphin County was settled by Scotch-Irish there were probably Andersons there as well, and they could descend from Andersons in Lancaster County proper.       There is a tax list in the printed Pa. Archives, you can find this at Footnote, on line.  I'd check this tax list for the late 1770s, this is probably a more reliable source for who was in Lancaster County (all of it) than just the existing Revolutionary War papers which we know aren't complete.       In 1777 Pa. had a draft of men between 18 and 53 the only people who were excluded were people who paid a fine and were called non-associators, the 1777 tax lists for Lancaster County include both the tax lists and the non-associators.  It would be better to come to Lancaster County and go through all those tax lists but the Pa. Archives might be a suitable alternative.  The 1780 tax list may have been late enough to have your ancestor old enough to be married and have his own household and show up on the tax lists.  Tax lists seem to be a more reliable way of checking who was in Lancaster County than Revolutionary Papers http://www.footnote.com/documents/185749/pennsylvania_archives/      If you do a search of Footnote don't forget to put the full name in quotations to eliminate all the Andersons, there will probably be tons of them and also, the tax lists are in the Pa Archives 3rd series, Vol. 17 so you can ignore other hits on Robert Anderson until later.  The tax lists are for 1771-1773, 1779 and 1782.  This should give you a more complete list of Robert Andersons in Lancaster County.      You might also check the records of Donegal Presybterian Church, these were published in Lancaster County Church Records of the 18th century, this might turn up something on the Elizabeth Twp. Andersons.  Maybe someone on the list has that book and can check it for you.                                                                                         Jim Conestoga Area Historical Society http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~pacahs/index.htm The Googel Search Engine on our page now works. ________________________________ From: C. His son Irwin's biography says that Robert Anderson was "a soldier of the Revolution, descended from a pioneer family of Lancaster county, whither they had emigrated from Ireland prior to the Revolution". PA Archives indicate there were 5 Robert Andersons who served in Lancaster militias: 1 from Colerain twp, 1 from East Strasburg twp, 1 from Elizabeth twp, and 2 from Leacock twp (Sr. and Jr.). I have tentatively eliminated all but the one from Elizabeth and "Jr." from Leacock. The latter remains a mystery because Robert Anderson Sr's only son named Robert was born in 1776, way too young to have served in the Revolution. My Robert Anderson is not registered with DAR, and he apparently is not one of the Donegal Andersons as they are fairly well documented. He moved west after the war and settled in Allegheny county. Any clues leading to Robert Anderson's origins greatly appreciated. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PALANCAS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
