I've been looking at "Histand" (the spelling) since you posted and thinking I knew some "Hestands" when I was growing up...could it be that "Histand" is not the correct spelling? Maybe that's what blocking your search. On Thu, Sep 8, 2011 at 3:51 PM, Stanford L. I just did a search on www.familysearch.org and got the following responses: Hiestand(s), Hestan(d), Hustend, Herstand, Heastand/t, Heestand, Heistant, and others with a less likely match. I think there are many reasons for families having "different" forms of a name: incorrect transcription; records scribes of varying original languages, scant educations, and members of families losing touch with each other and having different levels of knowledge about details of family history. It is always paramount to search for different spellings of names, or to try different combinations of the first three or four letters using a wild card for the rest of it to see what you turn up. I've come across records for people with what seems like a fairly simple name (Hendricks/Hendrix) and I have no idea how anyone deciphered that name from what is on the original record! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brownie MacKie" <lumackie@gmail.com> To: <palancas@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, September 09, 2011 8:09 AM Subject: Re: [PALANCAS] Elizabeth Histand b: September 12, 1800 > I've been looking at "Histand" (the spelling) since you posted and > thinking > I knew some "Hestands" when I was growing up...could it be that "Histand" > is > not the correct spelling?
