Thanks, Maria!! I just found the maiden name for my husband's 3rd great grandmother. Unfortunately, I can't find any more info on her. Anyone else have a BENICKS in their tree? I looked at 1840 & 1850 census records, and I'm thinking the surname is possibly Benedict, rather than Benicks. In 1850 one listing has it spelled Benetick. All I can say, is be really open to all kinds of creative spellings. If you have access to tax records for Lancaster city, they might help, although it is a little harder to find them this late. If you are desperate, you could try going through the Grantor (seller) deed index: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~paslchs/LandindexBem.html Lancaster County deeds are viewable on-line using the E-FILM READER here: http://www.lancasterdeeds.com/lanco_rod/cwp/view.asp?a=662&Q=582879&lanco_rodNav=| I can send instructions for using it if you can't get it to work. Lancaster deeds include "Releases" in which the heirs sign off on a piece of property. It is a great way to find maiden names or married names of women.
