Help! I am hoping there are Lancaster researchers who are knowledgable regarding any early Lancaster Co. churches, 1700's, and have surviving church records, if any! Could you please let me know where those records can be found as well?? I am trying to break a brick wall that may trace to Lancaster Co. and hope any surviving church records will confirm or eliminate possible family connections. Thank you very much, Dawn
Dawn, You should go to the nearest large library and find a copy of the book by A. Hunter Rineer, "Churches and Cemeteries of Lancaster County". I found it at the DAR Library in DC. It is a very complete reference guide, and has a section on the "Olsest Churches in Lancaster County". Here is my collection of PA URLs for statewide plus Chester, Lancaster and Philadelphia Counties. If anyone can add to this, especially Lancaster Co, I would be very grateful. Many have shared these with me and it's time to give back. Graham Louer Plano TX Married 60 years this November

I discovered a new URL that is pretty cool the other day. It has more than just Lancaster County on it and the Lancaster County paper listed is available at other sites. But I did want to share it anyway. The search capabilities seem easier than some of the old newspaper sites. http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/newspapers/ On Nov 3, 2011, at 12:22 PM, Vickie Calzada wrote: > Graham, > Could you please email me the list of URLs? > > Many Thanks! > Vick > > On Fri, Oct 21, 2011 at 9:09 AM, <glouer2@aol.com> wrote: > >> Here is my collection of PA URLs for statewide plus Chester, >> Lancaster >> and Philadelphia Counties. >> >> If anyone can add to this, especially Lancaster Co, I would be very >> grateful. >> >> Many have shared these with me and it's time to give back. >> >> Graham Louer >> Plano TX >> Married 60 years this November >> >> >> >> >> ------------------------------- >> To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to >> PALANCAS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the >> quotes in the subject and the body of the message >> > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PALANCAS-request@rootsweb.com > with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and > the body of the message
There are many books of transcriptions of early Lancaster County church record that have been published. I have seen them on the shelves at Lancaster County Historical Society, but can't seem to find them so far in their on-line catalog. In addition to their books, the LCHS has lots and lots of early and not so early church records on microfilm. The link for their online catalog can be found on this page: http://www.lancasterhistory.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=52&Itemid=61 . One book currently in print that I have found useful is: F. Edward Wright's _Lancaster County, Pennsylvania church records of the 18th century_. There is 5 volumes of records. The exact churches listed are listed in the LCHS on-line catalog. Hope this helps, Triste --- If you can't get rid of them ugly old skeletons in the closet, at least teach 'em how to dance funny.
