Morning Folks. I am searching for marriage information and birth records for a family of the New Holland area that have eluded me for a long time. My fourth great grandfather George Bartel and and wife Catherina Reichwein. Old George who changed his name numerous times, was a Hessian Soldier who took leave of the Convention Army as they were being marched through the area to Virginia in December of 1778. He was captured at Saratoga the year before. The first child that I was able to track was Samuel Bartle who was born in 1783 and died in 1816. Samuel wasn't the first according to German naming patterns, it should be George because Catherine's father's name was George. There is a George Jr mentioned in his will but I am at a loss as to when he was born and when the couple were married. I didn't know there were two Trinity Lutheran Churches. I could use some help finding This marriage and birth information in the new Holland area between 1778 and 1783. George also went by the name of Bartels which is his real name and Bardel, Bartle, Bortel. Thank you kindly for any assistance. Hi David, There was a Zeltenreich (sometimes spelled with an S, Seltenreich) Reformed Church in the New Holland area that date but there records aren't complete. What you want to do is find a way of checking these records. Some were published in the Wright Book, "18th Century Churches of Lancaster County" and the Lancaster County Historical Society has some other sources. They may also have been published in the Proceedings of the Pa. German Society, but I'm not certain. Check the records for the period your interested in to see if there are marriages from that time period, Zeltenreich was an old church by the time of the Revolution so the incomplete records could be before the period your interested in. By the conventions of the day you should find the marriage at his wife's church, and if she was Reformed and from the New Holland area then that should be at Zeltenreich. Maybe someone on the list has the Wright book and can check this for you.
