I am in need of a death record for a Catherine Hake who died in Lancaster Co, probably in or around Washington Borough prior to 1860. I am in desperate need of locating a maiden name for Catherine so I can also locate a marriage record for her. She was found in this census record below with he name spelled as Hague but her husbands family across the river in Windsor Twp, York Co spelled it as Hake or Hage and occasionally Heck. She was a widow of William who died in 1823 when Catherine was 6 months pregnant with her daughter Catherine. Catherine appears in 1830 Manor Twp, Lancaster PA Catherine Hake, Age 30/40 no mention of children. We know from Orphan courts documents that the older two children were farmed out with the Hake relations but there is no mention of Catherine and her younger children. 1850 Washington Borough, Lancaster Co., PA 10 Oct 1850 John Rider 31 Catharine Rider 27 Born in York Fanny Rider 6 Samuel Rider 5 Sarah Rider 1 Catharine Hague 57 Catherine & John Rider's family soon after moved to Whitley, Indiana where I have searched for any mention of Catherine. I found none but did locate this record below. Samuel Rider a prosperous farmer and ex-soldier of the Civil war is a son of John and Catherine (Hake) Rider, and was born in York county. Pennsylvania. March 3, 1845. There he resided until he was ten years of age, at which time his parents moved to Whitley county, Indiana. SOURCE: page 543; Progressive men and women of Kosciusko County, Indiana: to which is appended ... By B.F. Bowen & Co. So according to this record Catherine may have passed away prior to their leaving for Indiana about 1855-1856 or she could have died anywhere along the way. There are no records of her in Whitley, Indiana or other counties nearby. It is my belief Catherine (unk) Hake may have moved across the river to seek assistance from her own family. Her daughters can all be found near by. While her son William Jr married Susan Rider the sister of John Rider, and settled in York County. 1850 Washington Borough, Lancaster, Pennsylvania John Walk 31 Elizabeth (Hake) Walk 33 Born in York 1850 Census Conestoga, Lancaster,PA Brady, Adam 27 Frederick 24 Eberly, Fanny (Hake) 30 Born in York * Fanny 's husband, Simon Eberly, was believed dead. It is not known where William Hage/Hake was buried as he was a pauper and was very ill before he died at the age of 35. He died in debt and may have been laid to rest in a paupers grave. His family was well established in Chanceford Twp and owned land on which he may also have been laid to rest. Thanks for any help. Melissa Hake Fitzkee
