Some time ago I asked about the location of New Amithi, PA. I received a typed transcription done in 1926 of the Bible record of James Mitchell b. 28 Sept 1738. In this record it states that his place of birth is New Amithi, Bend County, PA. I couldn't find anything online about a Bend County in PA. Does anyone on this list know about this county or where I should look to find information? Thank you, Kathy
Since this document was typed in 1926 we can't assume that its accurate, the people who typed it may have included material that they thought was true but now appears to be not true. It is not a primary document and who can be certain that the original bible record was recorded in 1738, it also may not be a primary document. There is a tax list for Philadelphia County in 1733 on the Philadelphia Genweb page, if I remember correctly it included Amity Twp, later Berks County (I typed it in several years ago), I'd check this to see if the name Mitchell appears. If not check the other Philadelphia Townships for the name Mitchell. There are also several books with Berk's County baptisms, you could see if someone on the Berks County list might check this for you. Good luck.
