Hi Susie, Since your ancestor was married in Ohio I would consider the possibility that his father died in Ohio and the easiest way to find him would be there. People often migrated with family members so he may have moved to Ohio with his father. Its also possible that his father died and he moved to Ohio with a brother but it will be difficult to find the father in Lancaster County if he died in Ohio so its probably best to start there. You can check the 1840 census for Ohio and see if there are other Dietricks, you can start with those who lived nearest your ancestor. You can also find where his wife grew up since people usually married someone who lived near them, transportation being what it was at that time. People moved at about 3 miles per hour (a leisurely walk or horse ride) so he probably grew up within three miles of her and probably attended the same church she did. I'd check the Ohio census for 1840 and see what counties both his and her surname show up. The Methodists existed in Lancaster County in 1809 but it was a very small sect, so he was probably something else. That isn't a great loss since Methodists in that period didn't keep church records anyway. You might check the 1810 Lancaster Federal census index to find Dietricks, that might help locate the family and suggest some possible religions. Below are the Dietrichs who appeared in Lancaster County Intestate Records, I don't have the full records. Intestate means they died without a will but there could be something in the Orphan's Court records. Dietrich George 1820 Dietrich Henry Jr. 1823 Dietrich Henry 1827 Dietrich Henry 1843 Dietrich Lorens 1815 Dietrich Philip 1816 Dietrich Philip 1827 Dietrich Philip 1836 Dietrich Tobias 1834 Jim Conestoga Area Historical Society http://www.rootsweb.com/~pacahs/index.htm "swank2002@core.com" <swank2002@core.com> wrote: I am looking for information regarding my gggrandfather Isaac Detrick, ( Deetrick,Dietrich,Etc.), all the information I have is from his death record from Miami county,Ohio. He died in 1873 and it states he was born in 1809 in Lancaster County,Pa. I am assuming the family was Methodist, since I found him buried in a Methodist Church cemetery. I know he was in Greene County,Ohio in 1836. He married Mary Ann Young in 1836 there. Their first son My ggrandfather was born in 1837 in Montgomery county,Ohio. the rest of his children's death records say they were born in Miami county,Ohio. His children are : Benjamin,George,John, Mary Margaret(Eliza),Amanda, Samuel, and Harriet, died very young. They were in Miami county census in 1860 and 1870, but can't find them before that time. Amanda marries an Abbott, can't find a marriage record, but in 1917 she was listed in her aunt Mary's will as being an Abbott and living in Pa. If anyone has any ideas,I'd appreciate the help. Thank you very much!
