Wheatland Mills. Pequea Creek, c1867,p 42, A-13 (Pacs & Atlas) The first mill was built in 1720 by Martin Kendig who later sold a stone mill to Emanuel Herr in 1725 (Paes). On 1725 Martin Kendig, a 1720 settler, sold 530 acres and a grist mill and water rights to Emanuel Herr (Barton). From 1758 to 1817 a John Herr owned the mill, including seven spellings of Herr in addition to the use of Jr. & Sr. (TAX). The second mill was of stone, 3.5 stories and 60 by 60 feet (Paes). In 1815 John Herr's Mill House on the Pequea Creek was stone, 2 stories, 53 by 45 feet (Tax). (This mill, owned as several others by John Herrs, is the only one owned by a Herr in West Lampeter.) In 1824 J. Herr was the owner of the mill on the Pequea Creek (Map). In 1827 (Lithograph) and the owner was John Musselman and in 1899 the owner apparently was William Pugh (Atlas).
