    3. You know I requested off list for the books as he requested. I got them promptly. If everyone would have read that he gave his email and said to contact him off the list, this problem would never have occurred. At any rate, thanks to him. However I agree with all of you. We don't need everyone requesting this on the list, there is a delete key, tax lists are genealogy. HOWEVER...... then not only do we get all the requests which bogged up everything but then we get the banter back and forth on the issue. Do you all know how many people belong to this list? Do you ever go into the Archives and look around? There were 104 messages sent to this list in March. Take a look below. And I didn't copy the entire thing. WHAT IF...... in all this banter and complaining someone used the same subject matter but DID include ancestors names and it was deleted because we all think it is still junk and arguing. How would you like having to click on ALL THESE LINKS to see if there is something worth while in them???? Non-current records of the Clerk of Courts, Prothonotary, Recorder of Deeds and Register of Wills are permanently maintained. Testate files (estates with a will) and intestate files (estates without a will) are recorded beginning in 1730. Administration bonds begin in 1753. Orphan's Court records date from 1742. Indices to inventories and accounts are in the County Archives; the original documents are located at the Lancaster County Historical Society. Marriage Licenses are recorded continuously from 1885. Old birth records from 1881 through 1906 only are kept by the Register of Wills Old death registrations from 1894 through 1907 only are kept in the County Archives Birth/Death records from 1907 to the present are kept by the Pennsylvania Department of Vital Records at New Castle, Pa. The Lancaster County Register of Wills maintains a 24-hour telephone information line (717-295-2001) which gives specific details about how to access these birth/death records ______________________________Date: Wed, 29 Mar 2006 22:55:33 EST From: blabonteluvr@aol.com To: PALANCAS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PALANCAS] Lancaster county Hi Susie ~ You might want to post his name etc. to this list. Someone may be able to give you more info. Do you have census info for later years? Was he still in PA or in OH? Any clue as to when he left PA? After the Archives (as mentioned in another reply) another good place is the Lancaster Co Historical Society. You might find some church info but anything else, I would imagine, would depend on when he moved from the area. If the census showed he had siblings, they may have stayed in the area & you may find some family info through the them (obits, church & cemetery records etc.) Another good place is the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society. Good luck and have fun in Lancaster Co!! (and watch out for the tourists that time of year, lol ;) Wanda "A Volunteer for Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness at http://www.raogk.org/" ______________________________Date: Wed, 29 Mar 2006 20:40:37 -0800 From: "Louise Commerford" <lcommer@msn.com> To: PALANCAS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Taxation and Militia fines Jack, I would also love to get a copy of the Lancaster area. I know this is disturbing to a lot of people, but they should be so happy that people are willing to offer information to those of us that are not in the area and do not have knowledge of these books or files. I have learned so much about the history of PA since joining this site. Louise Commerford - Washington State --------------------------------- Blab-away for as little as 1ยข/min.
