Some of my family were Brethren, not Mennonite, but I found material at the Mennonite Historical Society. Don't automatically assume that you won't find things there if you don't believe the family was associated with the Mennonites. They have a LOT of material on families--and I met a cousin there (I don't know what degree of cousin it was, because that part doesn't matter to me--it was just exciting to meet someone who was researching the same lines.)
