Good Evenin' Richard and List: My whole hearted apologies for misunderstanding what Richard Pence wrote! As I said, "I came in - in the middle of things" and probably should have read all of my PALANCAS-L e-mails before replying. Once again please don't feel that I have singled you out, Richard - even though I did [by habit] hit the reply button rather than post my own reply to the whole list. I know from my own experiences that there are many, many "hidden" places to look for family information other than the ordinary places such as Census, Bible Records, Wills, Deeds, Marriage Records, etc. and was only trying to suggest to those listers who may be new to genealogy that this [the County Tax Lists] may be one of the places they may have to search in order to find information on their relatives. I'm also going to throw out another "hidden place" to search for those elusive characters, you may also have to look on Deeds of Releases - which are most often included with the regular land Deeds. These documents usually are for when a person had died and the land/property is to be sold. The remaining living heirs must sign-off to allow the ground to be sold. And if they live outside of the area that the property was in - such as another county or state - this may also be noted. Best Wishes to All on your quest for your ancestry!
